8 Things to Do On Your Adventure Trip to Nepal

Life style of an individual plays a decisive role in his preferences. Education or vacation, ideas of individuals vary. While some love to relax in a serene atmosphere amidst breathtaking landscapes on a holiday, some love to go all out and get adventurous. The ‘adventure element’ in man has brought him this far since the evolution of mankind and man can never stop enjoying the thrill and seeking horizons unknown and treading lands where even ‘devils’ do not dare. If it is the adventure element in you that has brought you to Nepal, here are some guidelines on the top 8 things to do on your trip to Nepal, which has 8 of the 10 highest mountains on earth.

1) Trekking

If you had planned to come to Nepal, you are sure to have trekking at the top in your list of priorities. Famous for some of the best treks in the world, Nepal is not just a feast for your eyes. Whether it is tea house trekking or organized trekking called camping, you could have your choice in Nepal. Tea house trekking is very common in Nepal. If you opt tea house trekking, you will be staying at local lodges in the night. You get to interact with people and understand their culture as tea house trekking lets you stay connected to the people. Moreover, you can trek at your convenience. Some of the most popular tea house trekking routes are Everest, Annapurna and Langtang areas.

In camping trekking, you will be experiencing an organized approach to trekking, which is supported by a complete team. The team comprises guides, camping staff, cooks and porters. The team sets off with all necessary equipments to trek. Here, at the end of a day’s trekking, the team will fix the campsite at the most suitable location. The food is prepared at the campsite and everyone rests here until the next day. Organized trekking gives you an opportunity to discover remote areas. Some of the best camping trekking locations are Dolpa, Rolwaling, Dhaulagiri and Makalu. You could plan your trekking based on your physical endurance level, number of days available for you and your budget. You could go trekking from one week to more than a month’s trekking.

Everest Base Camp trekking is a classic trekking route that takes you to the base of the world famous and highest mountain. This could be the ultimate experience as right from the beginning up to the destination; you would love every moment of it. On your way to Everest base camp, you will have awe-inspiring views of Himalayan peaks.

2) Mountain Biking

Mountain biking in Nepal is a unique experience as it is dramatic, adventurous and incredible. Words fail to translate your experience in mountain biking in Nepal. Your skills are challenged with tough climbs and hair raising descents in the Kali Gandaki valley, which is the deepest valley on earth. Some mountain biking routes touch your soul with scenic beauty and diverse landscape. You could experience both ends on mountain biking here. Challenging tours let you explore your inner strength while long pleasant rides let you explore Nepal and the beauty it has to offer. Some of the famous mountain biking tours are Kathmandu Valley biking tour, Annapurna Circuit biking, Valley Rim short, Upper Mustang biking tour and so on.

3) Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping is a popular sport in Nepal. It is so terrifying that the sight of some one performing the act scares the observer. This is where you need to be if you are seeking adventure. The first bungee jumping site in Nepal is located 100 km away from Kathmandu. The 160m bungee jumping site is over river Bhote Koshi and it is close to Nepal-Tibet border. A three-hour long bus journey from Kathmandu will take you to the bungee jumping site. Nepal’s longest suspension bridge connects two sides of the great valley.

4) Paragliding

Pokhara in Nepal ranks fifth among the best locations in the world for paragliding. Paragliding in Nepal takes you over the lakes and gives you an excellent view of the Himalaya in all its glory. Take off point for gliding is Sarankot and you land by Fewa Lake. While you paraglide, you get to view the stunning landscape around the valley, rivers and Fewa Lake. You can photograph these great views as the paragliding harness provides you the best comfort and make you feel as safe as a bird that is on air. Other paragliding areas in Nepal are Bandipur and Kathmandu.

5) Expeditions

Expeditions in Nepal are the most natural thing to do as it is a land where you find 8 of the world’s 10 highest mountains. Ever since 1953 when Mount Everest was scaled by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, Nepal became the favorite destination for mountaineers. There are 8 mountain expeditions in Nepal that are above 8000m and 10 mountain expeditions between 6000m and 7000m. Well-trained and experienced guides will be with you throughout the expedition. Experiencing the beauty and fascinating charm of the region is the ultimate moment for any mountaineer.

6) Rafting

Your adventurous tour of Nepal is not complete without rafting in Nepal rivers. The rivers plunge from the highest mountains and reach Ganges, the greatest plains on their journey towards Bay of Bengal. While the white waters keep your spirits high, the serene stretches let you indulge in the bountiful beauty of nature. Some of the famous rivers in Nepal where you could go rafting are Sun Koshi river, Trisuli river, Bhote Koshi river, Seti river, Karnali river and Marsyandi river. Sun Koshi river is among the world’s top ten rafting rivers.

7) Jungle Safari

Nepal is not only famous for its towering mountains but also for its tropical jungles. The dense forests are home to some of the rare wildlife habitats. Out of the 14 national parks in Nepal, Chitwan National Park and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve are very popular. Chitwan National Park is easily accessible. Jungle safaris offer education, entertainment and exercise. You get to learn a lot about the wildlife, you can do bird watching and the elephant ride is sure to thrill you. Jungle walks on the grass lands energize you. Some of the activities during jungle safari at Chitwan National Park include jungle walk, village walk, elephant ride, jeep ride and canoeing in river Rapti. Never forget to bring your binoculars to have a closer look on the rare species.

8) Canoeing

Yet another adventurous sport in Nepal is canoeing. Nature has been extremely generous to the Mountain Kingdom. Rivers from the mountains and lakes in Nepal are best suited for canoeing thanks to the natural setting. White water canoeing is possible only in Nepal, the land with high mountain peaks. All the 16 rivers in Nepal offer you canoeing facility. Some of the rivers famous for canoeing include Trisuli river, Sun Koshi river, Kali Gandaki and so on. Sun Koshi is the longest canoeing route of all the rivers thanks to the 270 kilometers-stretch. Canoeing is the best way to explore the magnificence of the regions by the famous rivers. Canoeing at Chitwan National park is a perfect blend of adventure and calm. While the waters are calm to make your ride pleasant, you get to see wildlife on the riverbanks. While deer and monkeys are pleasure to watch, you may not appreciate the idea of having crocodiles too close to you for comfort.

It can never be assumed that all is said about Nepal and the adventure it has to offer. You need at least a month to experience some of the most beautiful features of the land. The best way to ensure that you cover all the important places in Nepal is to have a perfect travel plan. And of course, you need to plan your budget as well. When a land has so many wonders and adventures to offer, you cannot afford to miss something for want of money. You could make use of make my trip coupons to save on your travel and accommodation expenses. Plenty of travel coupons are made available on Coupon Lava website.
The Kathmandu valley has an exotic setting. It is surrounded by tier upon tier of green mountain walls above which towered mighty snow-capped peaks. It consists of the three main cities of great historic and cultural interest: Kathmandu, Lalitpur (Patan) and Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon). The Kathmandu valley covers an area of 218 square miles. It is situated at the height of 1,310 meters from the sea level.

Culture & heritage

Nepal is a land that has a very glorious and ancient past and that is visible in its architecture and the various monuments that it has. There are various other religious and cultural heritage sites that are present all over Nepal and these places are sure to take your breath away. If you are not really into trekking then a culture tour is sure to be liked by you. Some of the places that are worth a visit have been.

Pashupatinath

One of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world, Pashupatinath lies 05 kms east of the city centre at the edge of the holy Bagmati river. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses, the scared linga or phallic symbol of lord Shiva chronicles indicate the temples existence prior to 400 AD.

Boudhanath

It is also protected by UNESCO as an important world heritage site. It is the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. It was built by Mandev in the 15th century AD.

Bhaktapur

This is also the city of art and architecture. The 12th century palace of 55 windows, situated to the left as you enter through the city gate, inspires admiration. The entrance to the palace, the golden gate is a masterpiece in repossess art.

Swoyambhunath

It is situated in the west of Kathmandu city on the top of the hill. The huge Stupa is one of the holiest Buddhist site in Nepal and is listed as a world heritage site.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

So far as art and architecture are concerned, you need to look no further. This complex of places, countryards and temples built between the 12th and 18th century. The Durbar Square protected by UNESCO as the world heritage site in the social, religious and urban focal point of the city.

Patan Durbar Square

It is protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The former Royal Palace complex is the centre of Patan’s religious and social life. One remarkable monument here is the 17th century temple dedicated to the Hindu god Krishna built entirely with just stone.

Lumbini

Situated south west of Kathmandu, Lumbini is the birth place of Lord Buddha. It is, thus, the centre of Buddhist pilgrimage and Buddhist Philosophy. The old Ashoka Pillar, The Garden, The Maya Devi Temple, The Old Monastery are the places worth visiting in Lumbini. It has been registered as one of the world heritage site.

Nagarkot

Nagarkot (altitude 2,175 metres) is by far the most popular. Located 30 kms east of Kathmandu, Nagarkot has developed into a favourite weekend gateway among those seeking mountain views in comfort and quite. At sunrise, the Himalayan range, stretching from Dhaulagiri in the west all the way past Everest for Kanchenjunga in the east, emerges from the darkness to greet the happy visitor with its awe inspiring majesty and beauty.

Pokhara

It is one of the most important beautiful places of the world which is a rare combination of the long arrays of snow clad peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers with deep gorges and picturesque villages inhabited by simple and friendly ethnic people. Only the fewer places in the world might have such a splendid variety of natural beauty crammed into one small area like the valley of Pokhara.

It is situated at the lap of panoramic Annapurna Himalayas range and world famous Mt. Machhapuchhere (fish-tail). The climate of Pokhara remains favourable through all the year round. It is neither too warm nor cold. Due to pleasant climate and good accessibility Pokhara is enjoyable throughout the whole year.

Bandipur

Bandipur is a picturesque town nestled in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal, a land as famous for its natural beauty as for the hospitality of its people. Bandipur lies midway between the capital Kathmandu and Pokhara, another popular tourist destination. Situated on a hilltop above the highway town of Dumre (7 km), Bandipur captivates the visitor with its cultural appeal and pristine scenery. This Newar town has maintained its age-old flavour, and presents sightseers with a heady mix of history, architecture, incredible views, awesome caves and unspoiled landscapes.

Jomsom

It is one of the most beautiful hill station situated at the altitude of 8,800 ft., which is surrounded by the most beautiful mountains like Dhulagiri, Nilgiri and Tukche peaks. The main important sightseeing sports around Jomsom are Marpha village containing an important Buddha monastery at its south end, Thini village containing naturally decorated beautiful lake known as Dhumpa Lake at the altitude of 9,500 ft. And a very beautiful village called Syang village. A number of hot springs are found in the hill side in the west of the town Jomsom. Picking up the stones on the bank of Kali Gandaki River (Ganga Jee) can be fascinating: it is not uncommon to find ammonite snail fossils (Saligrams) which is the symbol of Vishnu according to the Hindu mythology.

Muktinath

Situated at an altitude of 3745 meters from the sea level this is a small but one of the most scared Hindu Temple surrounded by lofty Himalayas. The easiest access to Muktinath is to take a flight from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Jomsom and do a three days trek through Kagbeni. It can be reached by a 10 days trek from Pokhara. The trek is one of the most beautiful treks in Nepal passing through typical Nepali villages and viewing many mountains including Mt. Annapurna & Mt. Dhaulagiri.

Tansen Palpa

It is situated at an altitude of 1343 meters and above the sea level this is the most popular summer resort in “Western Part of Nepal”. It has perhaps; Nepal’s most far stretching views of the country’s chief attraction, the Himalayas from Dhaulagiri in the west to the Gaurishankar in the north east. Seven hours of pleasant drive from Pokhara takes you to Tansen Palpa.
