Day to day itinerary

Day 1
Tokyo Arrival
After your international flight you will arrive in Tokyo, one of the world’s major economic centres and Japan’s modern capital. English-speaking meeting assistant at Narita Airport to assist you board the “Airport Limousine” bus to central Tokyo. The bus stops directly outside your hotel.

Day 2
Tokyo
Full day free to explore Tokyo. Why not take an optional Tokyo Morning tour, or another of Lumle Sunrise tours and excursions with English-speaking guide?

Day 3
Mt Fuji, Hakone
On you first day in Tokyo you will be collected from the hotel at 8am, when you will embark on a scenic drive
from Tokyo to Mt Fuji. Mt Fuji is an active volcano that has come to be symbolic of Japan around the world. It stands over 12,000 feet tall and is beautifully snow capped during the winter months. The drive will take you to the 5th station – a 5 to 6 hour trek from the summit for experienced hikers, where you will enjoy an incredible view of the surrounding countryside. You will then continue on to Hakone – a hot springs resort town located in the Fuji Hakone Izu National Park, where you will enjoy a meal. After lunch, take a scenic cruise on Lake Ashi, a slender body of water formed in the Hakone caldera some 400 thousand years ago. You will then climb Mt. Komagatake via the Komagatake Ropeway and take in the stunning, sweeping views of Hakone National Park and Mt. Fuji. Return to Tokyo by late afternoon.

Day 4
Tokyo
Full day free to explore Tokyo. Why not take an optional Tokyo Morning tour, or another of Lumle Sunrise tours and excursions with English-speaking guide?

Day 5
Tokyo – Kyoto
After breakfast, make your way to Tokyo station to take Japan’s famous Bullet train to Kyoto (train tickets and seat reservations will be handed to you at the hotel). The train journey is around 2.5 hours. On arrival, transfer to your hotel in Kyoto. The New Miyako Hotel is connected to the station complex itself. Afternoon free.

Day 6
Kyoto
Pickup service from hotel to join a full day sightseeing tour of Kyoto and Nara by coach with English-speaking guide. This ancient city, home to almost 1.5 million people, was Japan’s capital for more than a thousand years and is still considered the country’s spiritual capital. Visit Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace. After lunch, continue to Nara, one of the earliest capitals of Japan. Visit Todaiji Temple, the world’s largest wooden building in which you will find the world’s largest bronze Buddha statue. The temple is located inside a huge park where small deer have free rein to mingle with visitors and beg for treats that you can buy from local vendors for a few yen. Another delight is Kasuga Shrine, full of thousands of paper lanterns.

Day 7
Kyoto, Osaka
After breakfast, say goodbye to Kyoto and take the train for the short journey to Osaka. You will be able to leave your luggage at the hotel. At 12:40, join the tour of Osaka at the Granvia Hotel. As one of Japan’s earliest capitals, Osaka remains a vital centre for trade and entrepreneurial culture. Hop on an afternoon city tour; visit Osaka Castle, one of Japan’s most famous castles, which played a major role in the country’s unification during the sixteenth century of the Azuchi-Momoyama period. The castle is a popular
spot during festival seasons; especially when the cherry blossoms bloom and the sprawling castle grounds are covered with food vendors and taiko drummers. Continue to Osaka Castle Port to take the Aqua Liner cruise on Osaka’s river network to see the city from the water. The tour ends at Osaka Station.

Day 8
Osaka
Today explore Osaka city on your own. You can visit the region’s many sites of rich cultural heritage. The Uemachi Plateau is filled with temples, shrines, and historical sites dating back to the 7th century. You can also visit the magnificent Osaka Castle, the city landmark originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi five centuries ago, or Kobe China Town, Harbour Land, Sky Garden in Uemeda and Yukaikan Aquarium at Minato, which is the largest aquarium in Japan.

Day 9
Osaka – Home
Lumle staff will meet you at the hotel and escort you to the airport bus stop by taxi and assist you in boarding an airport bus for Kansai International Airport (KIX) for your departure for the UK, arriving the same day.
