What is ‘Tamang Heritage Trail’?

The ‘Tamang Heritage Trail‘ is an exhilarating new hiking trail lies between Langtang and the Ganesh Himal. Langtang region is culturally wealthy area immersed in Tibetan tradition. The Langtang region is populated with local Tamangs ethnic tribal. The Tamang people are observed as some of the hospitable amongst other ethnic group.

The Tamang Heritage Trail takes you through Nepal’s green and lush midlands that allows trekkers to experience the natural beauty. The trail further passes through pristine and primitive Tamang villages where lifestyle, culture, crafts and language have yet remained unchanged. The Tamang monastery, Tamang village and prayer flags around are the key significance of the area.

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing (1330m)

Day 03: Kathmandu – Syabrubesi (by overland approx. 7-8 hours)

Day 04: Drive to Goljung and start trek to Gatlang (2238m) (by walk approx. 5 hours)

Day 05: Gatlang – Tatopani (2607m) (by walk approx. 5-6 hours)

Day 06: Trekking to Thuman (2338m) through Nagthali (3165m) (by walk approx. 7-8 hours)

Day 07: Trekking to Timure; Tibetan boundaries (by walk approx. 3-4 hours)

Day 08: Trekking to Briddim (2239m) (by walk approx. 5-6 hours)

Day 09: Briddim (Relaxation day)

Day 10: Briddim – Syabrubesi (by walk approx. 4–5 hours)

Day 11: Syabrubesi – Kathmandu

Day 12: Final departure

Where Tamang Heritage Trail trekking does start and end?

The Tamang Heritage Trail starts either from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through Gojng, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu

It’s not beginning but, you will be excited to land at Kathmandu airport surrounding by mountains. You will be met by our airport representative and transferred to the hotel. Our guide will brief you regarding your Tamang Heritage Trail trekking. Remaining time at your leisure.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing (1330m)

After breakfast, you will start sightseeing of Kathmandu valley initially by Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. We will have lunch break than continue remainder of sightseeing by visiting Boudhanath and Patan.

Day 03: Kathmandu – Syabrubesi (by overland approx. 7-8 hours)

Early breakfast than we start our driving journey to Syabu Besi. Upon arrival, we will spend our night here.

Day 04: Drive to Goljung and start trek to Gatlang (2238m) (by walk approx. 5 hours)

After breakfast, we start our trekking journey from Syabrubesi. Enroute we enjoy great views of the Ganesh Himal, Gosainkunda range and Langtang Lirung. We continue down to Goljang valley where we stop for lunch. After lunch, we continue our journey Gatlang. It is a beautiful Tamang village lies high on a hillside among terraced fields.

Day 05: Gatlang – Tatopani (2607m) (by walk approx. 5-6 hours)

After breakfast, we begin our walk by descending to Thangbuchet (near Chilime village) by the Bhotekoshi river. Once we pass Chilime, we start to ascend by crossing a small hanging bridge before we reach to our stay point. Enroute, we will enjoy brilliant views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang range. The Tatopani means ‘hot water’, where one can wash in the natural hot springs. The habitats of this area believe that the hot waters have a medicinal significance that comforts away your aches and pains.

Day 06: Trekking to Thuman (2338m) through Nagthali (3165m) (by walk approx. 7-8 hours)

After breakfast we start our day. Today will the longest hiking day. Our journey starts by ascending to Nagthali. Once upon a time, Nagthali used as a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. The highest pass of the area is called Nagthali Danda (3300m), sits in an elevated open grassland that offers fascinating views of snow-capped Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Kerung and Sanjen ranges.

After crossing through Nagthali, our descending down takes us to Thuman; the Tibetan influenced Tamang village. The primeval monasteries and houses bejeweled with opulent wood inscriptions are an unforgettable moment.

Day 07: Trekking to Timure; Tibetan boundaries (by walk approx. 3-4 hours)

After breakfast, we start our day. Today is fairly straightforward, easy as we walk through flat trails which descends to Timure. It is en route to the old trade route to Tibet. After lunch at Timure we visit Rasuwa Gadhi, an historical reminder of the Nepal-Tibet relations that has prevalent for several centuries. A suspension bridge connects Nepal and Tibet.

Day 08: Trekking to Briddim (2239m) (by walk approx. 5-6 hours)

As usual, after breakfast, we start our trek. We will be passing through rhododendron forests and paddocks we trek towards Briddim village, Tibetan influenced Tamang village situated in the lap of Langtang Himal. This primitive Tamang village houses approximately 43 households lined up in Z shape.

Day 09: Briddim (Relaxation day)

The entire day is yours left for rest. We will also visit the local monastery; Dukchu Gomba. This monastery was chosen by Tibetan Lama – Guru Rinpoche and Chukla Khnaga Gomba as a sacred spot.

Day 10: Briddim – Syabrubesi (by walk approx. 4–5 hours)

In the morning, after breakfast, we start return journey to Syabrubesi. We pass through paddy and corn fields and Bhote Koshi river on our left hand side.

Day 11: Syabrubesi – Kathmandu

Morning after breakfast, we start our journey back to Kathmandu by drive. Upon arrival at Kathmandu check into the hotel and remainder of time is yours for rest.

Day 12: Final departure

After breakfast of depending on your flight schedule, you will have some time to commemorate those glorious, memorable memories of Tamang Heritage Trail trek and you will be dropped to the Kathmandu airport for final journey back home.
