The Experience

DAY 01 | DEPART LONDON HEATHROW

Today you will board on an overnight plane to Kathmandu, Nepal. Kathmandu, Nepal is the gateway for Tibet. (1 stopover; 1-5 hours’ layover).

DAY 02 | ARRIVAL KATHMANDU [approx 1330 meters]

We all know how famous Nepal holidays are as there is a lot to do and see in the country and so once you have packed your bags, you will be flown down to Kathmandu.
Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, our airport executive will meet & greet you. You will have some time to get settle down before you are escorted to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel; check-in and you will be briefed for your onward holiday.

You will be leisure of your own to walk around the city, visit tourist area and perhaps dining for dinner in one of the finest restaurants of Kathmandu [optional].

DAY 03 | KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING

This is the day our Nepal office team will arrange your China visa whilst you enjoy Kathmandu sightseeing.

Early is the morning is yours! You may not miss embarking on a scenic mountain flight to Mount Everest at your own cost. If you have been to Nepal in the past, then you will be well aware of the fact that sightseeing is an integral part of the holiday.

You will proceed for sightseeing of Kathmandu valley by visiting following sites.

Durbar Square: So far as art and architecture are concerned, you need to look no further. This complex of places, country yards, and temples built between the 12th and 18th century. The Durbar Square protected by UNESCO as the world heritage site in the social, religious and urban focal point of the city.

Pashupatinath: One of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world, Pashupatinath lies 05 kilometres east of the city centre at the edge of the holy Bagmati river. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses, the sacred linga or phallic symbol of lord Shiva chronicles indicate the temple’s existence prior to 400 AD.

Bouddhanath: It is also protected by UNESCO as an important world heritage site. It is the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. It was built by Mandev in the 15th century AD.

DAY 04 | KATHMANDU – LHASA (Tibet) (By flight) [approx 3656 meters]

This morning you will be driven to the Kathmandu airport for flight to Lhasa (Tibet).

Upon arrival at Lhasa; you will be met by our airport representative and transferred to the hotel. Remaining time is for rest & relax. You will have 3 nights in Lhasa to acclimatize before moving to Gyantse and Shigatse.

To pre-empt altitude sickness, Lumle Holidays suggest you have a good rest and do not get too excited. We haven’t arranged any tours or activity for this first day of your trip, in a bid to provide you time to acclimatize. It is likely that you might suffer from symptoms of altitude sickness, that includes abnormal tiredness or headache. If you need any help, your guide is there for you to assist. If you feel good and comfortable, feel free to explore this gorgeous ancient city on your own. Please take it easy and move slowly.

Good to know:

+Always ask your guide whether you are allowed to take a photo inside of monasteries.

+Enjoy some time on the square in front of the Potala Palace at night. You will have a good chance to see more of the locals, as Lhasa people like to get together there at night time.

DAY 05 | IN LHASA

In the Morning, visit the centre of Tibetan Buddhism – Jorhkang Temple, where you will come across lots of devoted pilgrimages coming from every corner of Tibet. Both sites are under the list of the world cultural heritages by the UNISCO.

Afterwards, free time for you to wander through the Backhor Street, the busiest street in old Lhasa quarter. One welcome dinner will be given for free today; you will have a chance to taste the most genuine local Tibetan food and drinks.

General rules for visiting temples in Tibet are:

+ Cameras are not allowed in the temples or in the debate field, but taking photos with a mobile phone may be allowed but please double check with your guide prior to doing so.

+ When visiting a temple, your shoulders should be covered, and you should not wear shorts clothing. Walk clockwise when visiting Barkhor Street.

DAY 06 | LHASA CITY TOUR

In the morning, visit the symbol or landmark of Lhasa-Potala Palace, the successive Dalai Lama’s winter residence and Norbu Ling Palace.

Good to know:

+ There are 1,080 steps up to Potala Palace and ascending steps on the plateau won’t be an easy task. If it’s too demanding physically for you, you don’t have to ascend all the steps, and your tour guide will adjust your route accordingly.

DAY 07 | LHASA-GYANTSE (270 KM/ 6-7 HOURS) [approx 4000 meters]

In the morning, drive to the historic town of Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake, according to local mythology, Yamdrok Lake (Video) is the transformation of a goddess, on the Gangbala Pass, you will have a clear picture of this Tibetan holy lake in turquoise, in distance you can also see the snowcapped Summit of Ninjingkangsang. Then we drive along the turquoise holy lake and snow-capped mountains, the views are just stunning. On the way, we will stop to visit the Karola Glacier before arriving in the ancient town of Gyantse.

DAY 08 | PALCH & SHALU MONASTERY (93 KM/ 2 HOURS) [approx 4500 meters]

Visit Palcho monastery, and Kubum stupa, where you will find the largest stupa in Tibet-Kumpa Stupa (Ten-thousand stupa), just next to the Stupa is the Palcho Monastery. Then we will drive to Shegatse and on the way visit Shalu monastery, very ancient monastery.

Then you can explore Shegatse town.

DAY 09| SHIGATSE TOUR – LHASA (271 KM/ 6-7 HOURS) [approx 4800 meters]

Visit Tashi Lhunpo monastery and drive back to Lhasa and on the way visit Yongzhong Ling monastery, Bon religion.

DAY 10 | IN LHASA

Today is kept entirely leisure for you to rest and relax. You may choose to explore Lhasa city of your own or enjoy last minute shopping .

DAY 11 | LHASA – KATHAMANDU (By flight)

This morning you will be dropped to the Lhasa airport for flight back to Kathmandu.

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport; you will be met by our airport representative and transferred to the hotel. Remaining time is for rest & relax.

DAY 12 | DEPARTURE KATHMANDU

After breakfast, you will either be transferred to the airport for onward flight or you may choose to extend your stay for Nepal holiday.

Group : In Nepal you will travel in a group of minimum 02 and maximum 17 people

Visa : Please note that in order to visit Nepal & Tibet, you will require a tourist visa. For the most up-to-date information regarding travel visas – including prices and the required length of time that the document is needed for – we advise that you visit www.gov.uk . Alternatively, you can contact the local embassy of the country you are planning to visit. You will also require Tibet permit to visit Tibet. We will arrange your China visa & Tibet permit at extra cost.

Passport : Please note that your passport MUST be valid for a minimum of 6 months after the validation date of your visa.

Visa Documents : Lumle Holidays will send you all the required documentation you need to apply for your visa (including flight information) between 4 and 6 weeks prior to your selected date of departure so you can apply for your Nepal visa in time. At least 3 weeks before your departure date you will receive your flight tickets and the confirmed list of your hotels in Nepal.

Travel Documents : Please ensure you take all your final travel documents with you to Nepal & Tibet

Personal Information : Please ensure that your personal details are filled in identically to the data on your passport. If this information does not match, you cannot travel to and from your destination. Amendment to this information if entered incorrectly will result in additional charges. If married, please fill in your surname as it appears on your passport.
