Discover Sri Lanka’s Cultural Heritage

Begin your journey with your flight from NEW YORK to Sri Lanka before discovering the country’s remarkable cultural heritage. Travel through the Cultural Triangle, where ancient monuments, temples and historic sites provide an introduction to Sri Lanka’s fascinating past. Visits to Dambulla and Sigiriya, together with other sightseeing and experiences specifically stated in your itinerary, reveal centuries of history and tradition.

Continue to Kandy, surrounded by the green landscapes of Sri Lanka’s central hills. Discover the city’s cultural and religious heritage through the sightseeing and experiences specifically included in your itinerary, with opportunities to gain an insight into local traditions and everyday life.

Tea Country & Highland Landscapes

Journey into Sri Lanka’s beautiful hill country towards Nuwara Eliya, renowned for its cooler climate, tea-growing landscapes and distinctive character. Where included in your itinerary, experience a scenic rail journey through the highlands and discover more of Sri Lanka’s tea heritage. Rail journeys are subject to railway schedules, ticket availability and operational conditions, and alternative transportation may be provided where necessary.

Nature, Wildlife & Conservation

Sri Lanka’s varied landscapes provide opportunities to discover another side of the island. Visit the Kosgoda sea turtle conservation project where included in your itinerary and learn more about local conservation efforts. Visits and experiences are subject to local opening and operational arrangements.

Optional wildlife experiences may also be available, including jeep safaris in destinations such as Minneriya National Park or Yala National Park, depending on the options offered for your departure. Wildlife is encountered in its natural environment and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Park access, safari routes and operating arrangements are subject to local conditions and regulations.

Relax by the Coast

Conclude your journey with time on Sri Lanka’s tropical coast in Beruwala. Enjoy leisure time to relax at your hotel, discover the surrounding area independently or choose from locally available activities and treatments. Activities, treatments, meals and sightseeing during leisure time are not included unless specifically stated in your itinerary or booking.

Available options, prices, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing and other inclusions will be shown at the time of booking and are subject to availability.

Important for individual travellers: Optional extensions and add-ons are separate from the main tour. Where accommodation is included in an extension selected by an individual traveller, the applicable occupancy basis and price will be shown during the booking process. The private-room basis of the main tour should not be assumed to apply automatically to an optional extension or add-on unless specifically stated.

Your Splendour of Sri Lanka Journey – Travelling Solo

This option is designed for customers travelling individually, but the tour itself is not exclusively for solo travellers. You will travel as part of a regular Lumle small group of 1–20 passengers, which may include couples, friends, family members and other individual travellers.

Your own private room is included at the hotel accommodation forming part of the main tour. Where an optional extension, add-on or different accommodation arrangement is selected, the applicable occupancy basis will be as specified in your booking.

This option is offered on selected guaranteed departure dates. Once your booking is confirmed, Lumle will not cancel your holiday simply because a minimum number of participants has not been reached. As with all holidays, operation remains subject to our Booking Terms & Conditions and circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Price for individual travellers: The price displayed for this selected departure is per person based on one person occupying their own private room at the hotel accommodation included in the main tour. Day 6 : EXPLORING KANDY’S CULTURAL SPLENDOURS

After a Delicious Breakfast: Discover the Enchanting Charms of Kandy

Step into a world where history and serenity intertwine as you begin your sightseeing tour of Kandy, a city that whispers the stories of kings and centuries past. Nestled amidst lush green hills, Kandy’s beauty is timeless, with a serene lake at its heart reflecting the grandeur of a bygone era. Known as the Hill Capital and the last bastion of the Sinhala kings, Kandy radiates an aura of majesty untouched by time.

At the center of this cultural haven lies the iconic Temple of the Tooth, a site that holds immense spiritual and historical significance. In the mist-shrouded hills, you’ll find Kandy’s vibrant satellite villages, renowned for their artisanal handicrafts and mesmerizing traditional dances — among the most spectacular in Sri Lanka. This UNESCO World Heritage Site not only celebrates its rich history but also echoes the belief that whoever holds the sacred relic of Buddha’s tooth holds sovereignty over the land.

A Sacred Visit: The Temple of the Tooth Relic

No trip to Kandy is complete without a visit to its crowning jewel, the Sri Dalada Maligawa. Known for its golden roof and classical Kandyan architecture, this majestic temple complex houses one of Buddhism’s most revered relics – a tooth of the Buddha himself. As you walk through the ornate halls, sense the echoes of history that shaped Sri Lanka, from ancient royal ceremonies to the shadows of wars and the rise and fall of kingdoms. Marvel at the intricate carvings, the serene ambience, and the captivating stories that make this temple a treasure trove of cultural heritage.
