During your overnight flight, sit back, relax, and enjoy the in-flight service as you journey toward the warmth of the Indian Ocean. Whether you're travelling solo, as a couple, or in a group, this marks the exciting start of a journey through Sri Lanka’s timeless wonders.

If you'd like to begin your adventure in style, consider upgrading your flight to Premium Economy or Business Class (optional and available at extra cost). Lounge access at NEW YORK is also available for those seeking a more relaxed pre-flight experience (optional at your own cost).

Your arrival in Colombo is scheduled for the following day, where a warm welcome and the start of your in-country adventure await.

Day 2 : ARRIVAL IN COLOMBO – COASTAL WELCOME IN NEGOMBO

Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka – the shimmering "Pearl of the Indian Ocean". Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, you’ll be warmly greeted by your dedicated Lumle Holidays representative and private driver.

From here, travel north along the palm-fringed coastline to the charming seaside town of Negombo, located just a short drive away. Known for its golden beaches, colonial heritage, and vibrant fishing community, Negombo is the perfect place to unwind after your international journey.

Check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Stroll along the sun-kissed shoreline, enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool, or simply relax in your serene surroundings. For those feeling adventurous, you might choose to explore the local fish market, take a catamaran ride on the lagoon, or sample a traditional Sri Lankan seafood curry at a beachside restaurant (optional activities at your own cost).

As the sun sets over the Indian Ocean, breathe in the balmy tropical air and ease into island life. Tomorrow, your Sri Lankan discovery truly begins.

Day 3 : SUNRISE SERENITY IN NEGOMBO & JOURNEY TO DAMBULLA

Awaken early for a magical start to the day with a tranquil boat trip across Negombo Lagoon. As the first light of dawn spreads across the sky, sip a freshly-cut coconut or a cocktail (optional refreshments at your own cost) while drifting past emerald mangroves, fishing canoes, and birdlife in this peaceful coastal setting. It's a serene and unforgettable introduction to Sri Lanka’s natural beauty.

Afterwards, delve into the character of this vibrant town with a guided city tour of Negombo. Visit the colourful fish market, see colonial-era Dutch canals, and admire the blend of Catholic churches and Buddhist temples that reflect the area’s rich cultural tapestry.

Later in the day, embark on a scenic overland drive inland to Dambulla – a cultural heartland of Sri Lanka. The 130 km journey offers glimpses of local village life, paddy fields, and forested countryside. On arrival, settle into your hotel and enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by lush greenery as you prepare for the cultural exploration ahead.

Day 4 : VILLAGE LIFE, COOKING & CATAMARAN CALM IN HIRIWADUNNA

Today, step into the heart of rural Sri Lanka with a captivating excursion to Hiriwadunna village. Begin with a gentle hike through lush countryside, accompanied by the sights and sounds of the tropical landscape. On arrival, visit a traditional village home where you’ll gain an authentic glimpse into daily life, meeting locals and learning about time-honoured farming and cooking methods.

The experience deepens with a hands-on Sri Lankan cooking class, where you’ll learn to prepare fragrant curries, lentils, and sambols using fresh ingredients and local spices. Afterwards, sit down to enjoy your own culinary masterpiece in the company of your hosts (cooking class is optional and available at your own cost).

Later, wind down with a peaceful catamaran ride across the village lake. Glide across the still waters as the sky softens into sunset hues, guided by a local naturalist who will help you spot eagles, herons, kingfishers, and other exotic birdlife. It’s a moment of calm reflection after a day rich in cultural connection and natural splendour.

Day 5 : GOLDEN TEMPLES & ANCIENT WISDOM – DAMBULLA TO KANDY

After a restful night amidst the peaceful surroundings of Dambulla, today begins with an awe-inspiring visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla (admission fee not included). This sacred site, nestled in a rocky hilltop, is home to a mesmerising series of five interconnected caves filled with Buddha statues, religious murals, and intricate carvings dating back to the 1st century BC. Over time, successive kings enriched the sanctuary with more than 150 statues, creating a visual chronicle of Sri Lanka’s spiritual and artistic evolution.

Wander through these atmospheric chambers, pausing to admire the serene stone-carved Buddhas and brilliantly coloured frescoes that depict tales from Buddhist scriptures. You’ll also find sacred depictions of the Hindu deities Vishnu (protector of the universe) and Ganesha (god of wisdom and learning), reflecting the rich spiritual fusion that defines Sri Lanka.

Following your visit, travel southward through scenic countryside to the misty hills of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s last royal capital. En route, you’ll stop at a traditional Ayurvedic village – a unique opportunity to discover the ancient science of Ayurveda, one of the oldest systems of healing in the world. Learn about the medicinal properties of local herbs and spices, and their uses in Sri Lankan cooking and natural therapies (optional treatments or purchases at your own cost).

Upon arrival in Kandy, settle into your hotel and enjoy a tranquil evening in this atmospheric hill town surrounded by forested slopes and crowned by a peaceful lake at its heart.

Day 6 : SACRED RELICS, FOREST TRAILS & CULTURAL WONDERS IN KANDY

This morning, embark on a fascinating journey through Sri Lanka’s cultural soul. Begin with a visit to the iconic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic – the holiest shrine in the country and a revered pilgrimage site. Housed within the royal palace complex, the temple holds a sacred tooth of the Buddha himself. Observe devotees offering lotus flowers and incense, and marvel at the ornate Kandyan architecture and rituals that bring this temple to life (modest attire required – shoulders and knees must be covered).

Afterwards, step into nature with a leisurely walk through the serene Udawattakele Forest Reserve, once a forbidden royal forest. This lush sanctuary is home to over 400 species of flora and fauna, including monkeys, colourful birds, and rare orchids. It offers a refreshing escape from the bustle of the city and a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rich biodiversity.

Later, enjoy a guided tour of Kandy, where colonial charm meets vibrant local life. Visit artisan workshops and browse exquisite handcrafted souvenirs – from intricate wood carvings to batik textiles and gem-studded jewellery.

Your evening culminates in an unforgettable cultural performance, showcasing the rhythmic artistry of traditional Kandyan dance. With swirling costumes, fire-breathing displays, and thunderous drumming, this one-hour show brings Sri Lanka’s ancient legends and folk stories vividly to life.

Return to your hotel in Kandy, enriched by a day filled with spiritual depth, natural beauty, and artistic expression.

Day 7 : : TEA COUNTRY CHARMS & SCENIC RAIL JOURNEY – NUWARA ELIYA TO HAPUTALE

Wake up to the cool, crisp air of Sri Lanka’s hill country and journey into the heart of its most iconic region – Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as “Little England” for its colonial charm and temperate climate. After breakfast, head to a working tea plantation and factory where the secrets of Sri Lanka’s most treasured export – Ceylon tea – are revealed.

Learn about the full production process, from the hand-plucked leaves to the fragrant brew in your cup. Discover how different grades of tea are produced and sample a selection of varieties straight from the source. If you're feeling adventurous, try your hand at tea picking alongside local workers – a delightful and humbling experience that brings you closer to the rhythms of rural life (optional activity at your own cost).

Next, prepare for one of the most enchanting experiences in Sri Lanka – a scenic train ride from Nanu Oya to Haputale. This two-hour journey is a feast for the senses as the train winds through rolling hills blanketed with emerald-green tea plantations, misty forests, waterfalls, and sleepy villages. The train may be modest, but the views are unforgettable – a slow-moving window into the soul of the hill country.

Upon arrival at the picturesque station in Haputale, you'll be greeted by your driver and transferred to your hotel nestled near Udawalawe National Park, where lush wilderness and wildlife await you tomorrow.

Day 8 : HEARTWARMING ENCOUNTERS – UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK & ELEPHANT REHABILITATION

This morning, after breakfast, you’ll head into the lush wilderness of southern Sri Lanka for a memorable visit to Eth Athuru Sevana – the country’s only official elephant transit home. Established in 1995, this government-run rehabilitation centre lies on the edge of Udawalawe National Park and plays a vital role in protecting Sri Lanka’s most iconic animal.

At Eth Athuru Sevana, you’ll witness the compassionate efforts made to care for orphaned and injured baby elephants that have been separated from their herds. These young calves are nurtured in a semi-wild environment until they are strong and old enough to be released back into the wild. Watching them during feeding time – often full of playfulness, curiosity, and affection – is both heartwarming and unforgettable.

This experience not only offers incredible photo opportunities but also fosters a deeper appreciation for conservation in Sri Lanka. Visitors are encouraged to observe respectfully, as the focus is on the elephants' eventual reintroduction into the wild. Donations and support for the centre are welcome (contributions are optional and at your own cost).

After this inspiring visit, return to your hotel to relax or prepare for your next wildlife encounter in the stunning landscapes of Udawalawe.

Day 9 : COLONIAL CHARMS & COASTAL ESCAPE – GALLE TO WADDUWA

Today, your journey leads you along Sri Lanka’s sun-drenched southern coastline, as you travel from the wilds of Udawalawe toward the peaceful shores of Wadduwa. En route, you’ll stop in the captivating city of Galle, a place where time seems to stand still behind its ancient ramparts and cobbled lanes.

First founded by the Portuguese in 1505 and later fortified by the Dutch, Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of a preserved colonial town in Asia. Your guided walking tour will take you past Dutch-era buildings, colonial villas, and cobblestone streets lined with art galleries, boutiques, and cafés – all steeped in old-world charm.

Admire the grandeur of St. Mary's Cathedral and pay a visit to one of the island's most revered Hindu temples, dedicated to Shiva – the god of creation and transformation. Your tour also takes you past the iconic Amangalla Hotel, once the Dutch governor’s residence and now a beautifully restored luxury property exuding history and elegance.

Following your exploration of this remarkable port city, continue your drive north along the palm-fringed coast to Wadduwa, a tranquil seaside town known for its quiet beaches and swaying coconut groves. Upon arrival, check into your beachfront hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, unwinding beside the Indian Ocean and watching the waves roll in beneath golden skies.

Day 10 : ARRIVAL IN THE MALDIVES – WELCOME TO ISLAND PARADISE

After your cultural journey through Sri Lanka, it’s time to unwind in one of the world’s most breathtaking destinations – the Maldives. Upon arrival at Malé International Airport, you’ll be transferred by speedboat or domestic flight to your luxury island resort. Settle into your beachfront or overwater villa and begin your week of pure relaxation. The rest of the day is at leisure, with optional experiences such as spa treatments or sunset cocktails available at your own cost.

Day 11 : LEISURE AT YOUR OWN PACE – SAND, SUN & SERENITY

Spend the day entirely at your own pace. Relax by the pool, lounge under a swaying palm, or swim in the warm, turquoise waters. Optional activities such as spa treatments, private dining experiences, or a gentle beach yoga session are available for those who wish to indulge at their own cost.

Day 12 : EXPLORE THE OCEAN – OPTIONAL SNORKELLING OR DIVING

Enjoy another leisurely day in paradise. For those interested in marine life, optional snorkelling excursions or diving trips are available at your own cost, offering a glimpse into the Maldives’ spectacular coral reefs. Or simply remain on the island to savour peace and privacy.

Take the day to embrace total tranquillity. Optional luxury spa rituals and wellness treatments are available at the resort at your own cost, offering an ideal way to rejuvenate body and mind. Or, unwind on the beach and take in the ocean breeze with no schedule at all.

Day 14 : WATER SPORTS & ISLAND LEISURE – OPTIONAL ADVENTURES

Today is yours to enjoy as you please. Optional water-based activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, or jet skiing can be arranged at your own cost for those seeking a splash of excitement. Or, continue to enjoy the serenity of your resort’s tropical surroundings.
