Day 2 : ARRIVAL IN MEDAN – WELCOME TO SUMATRA

Welcome to Sumatra! Upon arrival at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, you will be met by your local representative and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time and local traffic conditions, the remainder of the day is at leisure to settle in after your journey.

Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, is one of Indonesia's largest and most culturally diverse cities, influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and Dutch heritage. If time permits, you may wish to relax at your hotel or independently explore the local area and experience your first impressions of this vibrant gateway to Sumatra.

Day 3 : MEDAN CITY TOUR & JOURNEY TO TANGKAHAN

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Medan, the capital of North Sumatra and one of Indonesia's most culturally diverse cities. During your sightseeing tour, visit several of the city's best-known landmarks, including a traditional Chinese temple, the magnificent Great Mosque (Masjid Raya) and the impressive Maimun Palace, the former residence of the Sultan of Deli, showcasing a blend of Malay, Mughal and Italian architectural influences.

Leaving the city behind, continue your journey towards Tangkahan, located on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. Travelling via Stabat and Batang Serangan, the route passes through rural villages, rubber plantations and tropical countryside, offering an insight into everyday life in North Sumatra.

Arrive in Tangkahan later in the day and check in to your jungle lodge. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing time to relax and enjoy the peaceful rainforest surroundings before the adventures that await over the coming days.

Day 4 : JUNGLE TREKKING, RIVER TUBING SAFARI & 4×4 ADVENTURE TO BUKIT LAWANG

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Tangkahan, an area renowned for its unspoilt rainforest and rich biodiversity. Accompanied by your local guide, enjoy an approximately 3-hour jungle trek through the tropical rainforest, keeping an eye out for native wildlife which may include Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, gibbons and a variety of tropical birdlife and plant species. As wildlife lives freely within its natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Following your trek, continue with a relaxing river tubing experience, gently floating downstream through the rainforest. Subject to local conditions, there may be opportunities to stop along the way to enjoy the natural surroundings, including a waterfall and nearby hot springs. A picnic lunch will be served during today's excursion.

Later, return through a local village where you may observe everyday life and gain an insight into the local community before continuing your journey towards Bukit Lawang.

Travel by traditional 4×4 jeep through plantations, rural villages and jungle tracks, experiencing some of North Sumatra's beautiful countryside. Depending on local conditions and time available, stops may be made at selected viewpoints, a local plantation, a village school and the exterior of a palm oil processing facility to provide further insight into the region.

Arrive in Bukit Lawang, situated on the edge of the renowned Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the world's most important remaining habitats for the endangered Sumatran orangutan. Check in to your accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure beside the Bahorok River.

Day 5 : GUNUNG LEUSER NATIONAL PARK – GUIDED JUNGLE TREKKING

After breakfast, venture into the renowned Gunung Leuser National Park, one of Southeast Asia's most important rainforest ecosystems and home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. Accompanied by an experienced local guide, enjoy an approximately 3-hour guided jungle trek through dense tropical rainforest, where you will have the opportunity to experience this remarkable natural environment.

As you explore the forest trails, keep an eye out for wildlife which may include the endangered Sumatran orangutan, Thomas leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, gibbons, black gibbons, colourful birdlife, tropical butterflies and a rich variety of rainforest flora. As all wildlife lives freely within its natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Throughout the trek, your guide will provide an insight into the rainforest ecosystem, explaining the importance of conservation, local wildlife and the diverse plant species found within the national park.

Following your trek, return to your lodge where the remainder of the day is at leisure. You may choose to relax beside the Bahorok River, explore the local village independently or simply enjoy the peaceful rainforest surroundings.

Day 6 : BUKIT LAWANG – SCENIC DRIVE TO MEDAN

After breakfast, bid farewell to the rainforests of Bukit Lawang and begin your journey back to Medan. Travelling through North Sumatra's countryside, pass rural villages, plantations and scenic landscapes, offering a final glimpse of this diverse region.

Upon arrival in Medan, transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure. You may wish to relax after your journey or make the most of your final evening in Sumatra before continuing to Borneo the following day.

Day 7 : FLY TO BORNEO – KUMAI & KLOTOK RIVER CRUISE

After breakfast, transfer to Kualanamu International Airport for your onward flight to Pangkalan Bun, the gateway to Indonesia's renowned Tanjung Puting National Park in Borneo.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to the riverside town of Kumai, where you will board a traditional wooden klotok. These locally built river boats provide a unique way to explore the waterways of Tanjung Puting National Park, with an open upper deck offering excellent views of the surrounding rainforest.

Cruise along the tranquil Sekonyer River, passing mangrove forests, nipah palms and tropical rainforest while lunch is prepared and served onboard. As you journey deeper into the national park, keep an eye out for wildlife which may include proboscis monkeys, long-tailed macaques, hornbills and other native birdlife. As all wildlife lives freely within its natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

This evening, enjoy dinner onboard before spending the night aboard your klotok, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Bornean rainforest.

Day 8 : PONDOK TANGGUI, CAMP LEAKEY & NIPA PALM AREA

After breakfast onboard, continue your journey along the Sekonyer River towards Pondok Tanggui, one of the rehabilitation centres within Tanjung Puting National Park. Subject to the park's daily schedule and wildlife activity, you may have the opportunity to observe one of the orangutan feeding sessions, providing an insight into the ongoing conservation efforts within the park.

Following your visit, there may be time for a short guided walk through the surrounding rainforest before continuing by klotok to the renowned Camp Leakey, one of the world's best-known orangutan research and rehabilitation centres. After lunch onboard, you may visit the information centre and, subject to operational schedules and wildlife activity, observe another scheduled orangutan feeding session. As orangutans live freely within their natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Later this afternoon, cruise downstream towards the peaceful Nipa Palm Area. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife which may include proboscis monkeys, macaques, hornbills and other native bird species. If weather and natural conditions are favourable, there may also be an opportunity to observe the area's fireflies after sunset.

Dinner will be served onboard before spending another memorable night aboard your traditional klotok surrounded by the sounds of the Bornean rainforest.

Day 9 : KUMAI – KUDANGAN VILLAGE & DAYAK LONGHOUSE EXPERIENCE

After breakfast onboard, cruise back to Kumai before continuing by road to Kudangan Village, a journey of approximately five hours through the diverse landscapes of Central Kalimantan. Along the way, pass rural communities, palm oil and rubber plantations, community farmland and areas of tropical forest, offering an insight into the region's varied scenery and local way of life. Lunch will be served en route.

Upon arrival in Kudangan Village, check in to a traditional Dayak longhouse, where you will experience a glimpse of local village life. Subject to time available, you may wish to take a walk around the village and observe the daily activities of the local community.

Following dinner, you may have the opportunity to experience a traditional welcome gathering, where local villagers may perform music using traditional instruments and share an introduction to their culture and customs. The programme may vary depending on local arrangements and community participation.

Day 10 : KUDANGAN VILLAGE – FOREST TREK – PANGKALAN BUN

After breakfast, enjoy a guided walk through the forest surrounding Kudangan Village. Accompanied by members of the local community, explore this area of tropical rainforest and learn about the region's natural environment, local traditions and ongoing community conservation efforts. Depending on local conditions, the walk is expected to last several hours.

Following your trek, return to the village to collect your luggage before travelling by road back to Pangkalan Bun. The journey provides another opportunity to experience the landscapes of Central Kalimantan, passing rural communities and areas of tropical forest along the way.

Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun, transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure. Dinner is included this evening.

Day 11 : PANGKALAN BUN – MEDAN

After breakfast, transfer to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your onward flight to Medan, marking the conclusion of your Borneo adventure.

Upon arrival in Medan, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing time to relax, enjoy the hotel facilities or explore the local area independently before continuing your journey to Thailand the following day.
