Begin your journey to India with an overnight flight from NEW YORK to Delhi.

Day 2 : ARRIVE IN DELHI

Arrive at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where you will be met by a Lumle Holidays representative and transferred to your hotel.

Delhi is a fascinating introduction to India, where centuries of history sit alongside the energy of a modern capital. The characterful streets and historic quarters of Old Delhi contrast with the broad avenues and impressive architecture of New Delhi, reflecting the many different eras that have shaped the city.

Day 3 : DELHI – AGRA BY TRAIN

After breakfast, continue your exploration of Delhi with a visit to Jama Masjid, one of the city’s most impressive historic mosques. From here, experience the atmosphere of Old Delhi on a cycle-rickshaw ride through the lively lanes of Chandni Chowk, passing traditional shops, markets and the everyday bustle of this historic quarter.

Later, transfer to the railway station for your journey to Agra. The train journey offers a comfortable way to travel south from the capital across the plains of northern India.

Day 4 : AGRA – TAJ MAHAL & AGRA FORT

Begin the day with an early visit to the magnificent Taj Mahal, with the visit planned around sunrise where local conditions permit. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal and remains one of India’s most celebrated architectural landmarks.

Take time to explore the monument and its surrounding gardens, admiring the white-marble architecture, intricate decorative work and carefully balanced design. The appearance of the Taj Mahal changes subtly with the natural light, making the early morning a particularly atmospheric time to visit.

Return to your hotel for breakfast before continuing later to Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This imposing complex of red sandstone walls, courtyards, audience halls and palaces served as an important residence of the Mughal emperors and provides a fascinating insight into the dynasty that shaped much of Agra's heritage.

Explore the fort and its impressive architecture, with views towards the Taj Mahal possible from parts of the complex when visibility permits.

Day 5 : AGRA – FATEHPUR SIKRI – RANTHAMBORE

After breakfast, leave Agra and travel by road towards Ranthambore, visiting the historic city of Fatehpur Sikri along the way.

Built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest surviving examples of Mughal architecture. Explore its impressive red-sandstone courtyards, palaces and ceremonial buildings while learning about the history of this former imperial capital.

Following the visit, continue your journey through the landscapes of Rajasthan towards Ranthambore. A stop for lunch can be made en route at a suitable local restaurant, payable directly.

Arrive in Ranthambore and check in to your accommodation. The surrounding region is best known for Ranthambore National Park, where forests, lakes and historic ruins provide a striking setting for the wildlife experiences ahead.

Where available, there may be an opportunity to attend an informal briefing or introduction to the national park and its wildlife ahead of your safari programme.

Day 6 : RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK – MORNING & AFTERNOON SAFARIS

Today is dedicated to exploring Ranthambore National Park, with both morning and afternoon shared Canter safaris included.

Set out in the early morning for your first game drive through the park. Ranthambore's varied landscape of woodland, lakes and historic ruins supports a rich variety of wildlife, including sambar and chital deer, wild boar, crocodiles and numerous bird species. The park is particularly renowned for its population of Bengal tigers, although sightings of tigers and other wildlife are entirely dependent on natural conditions.

Return to your accommodation after the morning safari for breakfast and time to relax.

Later in the afternoon, venture into the national park once again on a second shared Canter safari, providing another opportunity to experience Ranthambore's landscapes and observe its wildlife.

Day 7 : RANTHAMBORE – JAIPUR

Enjoy a leisurely morning at your accommodation, with time to relax following the previous day's safari experiences.

After lunch, check out and travel by road to Jaipur, the vibrant capital of Rajasthan. The journey takes you through the rural landscapes of the region before reaching the famous Pink City.

Known for its distinctive architecture, colourful bazaars and long traditions of craftsmanship, Jaipur is one of Rajasthan's most fascinating cities and forms an important part of India's celebrated Golden Triangle.

On arrival, transfer to your hotel and check in. The remainder of the evening is at leisure to relax and prepare for the following day's exploration of Jaipur.

Day 8 : JAIPUR SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Jaipur with a visit to the magnificent Amber Fort, dramatically positioned among the hills outside the city. Travel by jeep from the lower area towards the fort entrance before exploring its courtyards, gateways and richly decorated interiors.

Discover some of the fort's most impressive features, including the Diwan-i-Aam, the beautifully decorated Ganesh Pol and the celebrated Sheesh Mahal, known for its intricate mirror work. Together, the palaces and courtyards provide a fascinating insight into Rajasthan's royal heritage.

Return to Jaipur and continue to the City Palace, a striking complex of courtyards and buildings combining Rajput and Mughal architectural influences. Parts of the palace house collections associated with Jaipur's former royal family, offering a glimpse into the city's regal past.

Nearby, visit the UNESCO-listed Jantar Mantar, an extraordinary collection of historic astronomical instruments created during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II.

Continue with a photo stop at Hawa Mahal, one of Jaipur's most recognisable landmarks, distinguished by its elaborate pink façade and numerous screened windows.

Day 9 : JAIPUR – DELHI

On arrival in the capital, continue with an orientation drive through New Delhi, passing India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, along with some of the grand avenues and government buildings that characterise this part of the city.

Later, visit Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Delhi's most significant Mughal monuments. Set within landscaped gardens, the striking red-sandstone and marble mausoleum represents an important development in Mughal architecture and influenced later monuments across India.

On arrival in Chandigarh, meet your local representative and continue by road towards Shimla. As you approach the Himalayan foothills, the landscape gradually changes, with winding mountain roads, forested slopes and hillside settlements accompanying the journey.

Set among the hills of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla developed as the summer capital of British India and retains a distinctive character, with colonial-era architecture and mountain scenery forming part of its appeal.

The road journey to Shimla follows mountainous and winding roads, and journey times may vary according to traffic, weather, road and local conditions. Temperatures in Shimla can be considerably cooler than in Delhi, so suitable warmer clothing is recommended.

Day 11 : SHIMLA – HERITAGE RAILWAY & COLONIAL SHIMLA

After breakfast, experience part of the historic Kalka–Shimla Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed mountain railway that has connected the Himalayan foothills with Shimla since the early 20th century.

Travel along a section of this narrow-gauge railway between Shimla and Kandaghat, passing through tunnels and across bridges as the route winds through the hills and forested landscapes of Himachal Pradesh. The heritage railway offers a fascinating reminder of Shimla's development during the British period as well as an enjoyable way to experience the surrounding mountain scenery.

Later, continue your exploration of Shimla with a guided tour introducing the city's colonial heritage. Visit the impressive Viceregal Lodge, formerly the summer residence of the British Viceroy, and the Himachal State Museum, whose collections provide an introduction to the history, art and culture of the region.

Continue towards Shimla's historic centre, including Mall Road and The Ridge. Along the way, see some of the city's distinctive colonial-era architecture, including the Gaiety Theatre and Christ Church.

Alternatively, relax at your hotel and enjoy a slower-paced day before continuing your journey.

Day 13 : SHIMLA – KALKA – DELHI

In the evening, visit Glenburn Penthouse for a private talk introducing the fascinating history of Kolkata and West Bengal. Day 15 : KOLKATA SIGHTSEEING & RIVER CRUISE EMBARKATION

After breakfast, transfer to the riverside and board your river cruise ship, where you will be welcomed by the crew and shown to your cabin. Take some time to settle in and become familiar with your surroundings as you begin the cruise element of your journey.

Following lunch on board, set out with your guide for an introduction to Kolkata, a city shaped by centuries of trade, culture and colonial history. Formerly known as Calcutta, Kolkata served as the capital of British India until the early 20th century and retains an impressive collection of historic buildings and monuments.

Your sightseeing includes some of the city's notable landmarks, including the historic Dalhousie Square area and St John's Church, before continuing to the magnificent Victoria Memorial. Surrounded by extensive gardens, this striking marble monument is one of Kolkata's most recognisable landmarks and provides an insight into an important period of the city's history.

Day 16 : KOLKATA – BALLY BRIDGE

After breakfast on board, continue your exploration of Kolkata with a visit to the city's lively Flower Market. See colourful displays of flowers and garlands prepared for temples, ceremonies and everyday use, offering an interesting glimpse into local life and traditions.

Continue to Kumartuli, a traditional artisans' quarter renowned for its skilled clay sculptors. Here, craftspeople create intricately modelled figures and religious idols, many of which are produced for festivals and celebrations throughout the region.

Return to the ship for lunch before beginning your cruise along the Hooghly River. As the vessel sails away from Kolkata, enjoy views of the city and its riverfront, passing the famous Howrah Bridge as you continue towards the Bally Bridge area.

Visit the Rajbari temple complex, home to an impressive collection of terracotta temples. Among its highlights is the remarkable Nava Kailash Temple, where 108 small Shiva shrines are arranged in two concentric circles. Visit a nearby village where traditional handloom weaving continues to form part of local life. See local artisans at work producing textiles using techniques that have been practised in the region for generations.

Later, cross the river by local boat to Mayapur, an important pilgrimage centre and home to the international headquarters of ISKCON. Visit the temple complex and learn more about the Hare Krishna movement and the devotional traditions associated with this spiritual centre.

Return to the ship for lunch before crossing to Fulia, an important centre for Bengal's handloom industry. Visit a local weaving community to see how skilled artisans produce traditional textiles and saris, including work incorporating jacquard and jamdani weaving techniques.

Go ashore for a guided exploration of the town, including Sacred Heart Church and the Chandannagar Museum, housed in a former French administrative residence. The museum's collections provide an insight into the town's colonial history and its connections with France.

Return to the ship and continue downstream towards Serampore, another historic settlement on the Hooghly River, formerly associated with Danish colonial trade.
