Day 1 : DEPART NEW YORK TO KATHMANDU

Your journey begins today as you make your way to NEW YORK Airport for your international flight to Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal.

Relax on board as you begin your exciting journey to the Himalayas, where a fascinating combination of spectacular landscapes, ancient heritage, wildlife and traditional culture awaits.

Day 2 : ARRIVE KATHMANDU TO DHULIKHEL

On arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to Dhulikhel, a peaceful hill town set amid the beautiful countryside on the eastern edge of the Kathmandu Valley.

The drive takes you away from the bustle of the capital and into the surrounding hills, where traditional settlements, terraced landscapes and distant mountain scenery provide a wonderful introduction to Nepal.

On arrival in Dhulikhel, check in to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Take time to relax after your international journey, explore the surroundings at your own pace or simply enjoy the peaceful setting and, weather permitting, views towards the Himalayas.

Day 3 : DHULIKHEL - MORNING SIGHTSEEING AND COUNTRYSIDE WALKS

After breakfast, set out to explore Dhulikhel on foot, beginning in the historic old bazaar. Wander through atmospheric lanes lined with traditional Newari houses, intricately carved wooden windows, brick courtyards, ancient shrines and temple squares, offering an authentic glimpse into the town’s rich cultural heritage and everyday life.

Continue beyond the historic centre into the surrounding countryside, following peaceful paths through traditional villages, terraced farmland and rolling hills. Weather permitting, enjoy beautiful views across the valleys towards the distant Himalayas, with plenty of opportunities to pause and appreciate the rural landscapes.

The morning is designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace, combining sightseeing with gentle countryside walking. Comfortable and supportive walking shoes are recommended, and the exact route may be adapted according to local conditions and the group’s preferred pace.

The morning walk is entirely optional. If you prefer a more leisurely day, you may skip the walk and remain at the hotel, relaxing and enjoying the facilities, peaceful surroundings and, weather permitting, mountain views.

The afternoon is at leisure, allowing you to relax at the hotel or spend some more time exploring Dhulikhel independently.

Day 4 : DHULIKHEL TO BHAKTAPUR TO KATHMANDU - HERITAGE SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and depart Dhulikhel for Kathmandu, travelling via the historic city of Bhaktapur. The journey from Dhulikhel to Bhaktapur generally takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

On arrival, enjoy a guided exploration of Bhaktapur, one of the Kathmandu Valley’s three ancient royal cities and part of the UNESCO-listed Kathmandu Valley. Begin at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where an impressive collection of temples, palaces, courtyards and intricately carved architecture reflects the city’s rich Newari heritage.

Continue through the atmospheric old streets to Taumadhi Square, dominated by the magnificent five-storey Nyatapola Temple, before visiting Pottery Square, where traditional pottery-making continues to form part of everyday local life. Along the way, discover brick-paved lanes, beautifully carved wooden façades, small shrines and historic courtyards that give Bhaktapur its distinctive character.

Day 5 : KATHMANDU TO BIRATNAGAR TO KOSHI TAPPU - FLIGHT AND WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE

After breakfast, transfer to Kathmandu Airport for your morning flight to Biratnagar in eastern Nepal. On arrival, you will be met and transferred by road to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, one of Nepal’s most important wetland habitats and an outstanding destination for birdlife and nature.

The reserve lies within the floodplain of the Sapta Koshi River and protects a diverse landscape of wetlands, grasslands, river channels and seasonal marshes. It is particularly renowned for its exceptional variety of resident and migratory birds, while the surrounding wilderness also supports a range of other wildlife.

On arrival, check in to your lodge and enjoy some time to settle into your surroundings. Later in the afternoon, accompanied by an experienced local naturalist, set out on a gentle nature and birding walk to begin discovering the reserve’s remarkable ecosystem. Keep watch for waterbirds, raptors and other species while learning about the wildlife and habitats of the Koshi wetlands.

Day 6 : KOSHI TAPPU - WILDLIFE, BIRDING AND SAFARI EXPERIENCES

After breakfast, begin a full day of wildlife exploration in and around Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Accompanied by an experienced local naturalist, explore the reserve’s wetlands, grasslands and riverine habitats, keeping watch for the remarkable variety of birds and wildlife found in this unique corner of eastern Nepal.

Set out on a birding and nature walk through the reserve, with opportunities to observe resident and migratory bird species as well as other wildlife. Koshi Tappu is particularly celebrated for its rich birdlife, making the slower pace of exploring on foot an excellent way to appreciate the sights and sounds of the wetlands.

Continue your wildlife experience with a canoe ride along the waterways, offering a different perspective of the surrounding landscape and an opportunity to observe waterbirds and riverside wildlife. Later, venture further into the area by jeep safari, exploring a wider range of habitats in search of wildlife including the reserve’s famous wild water buffalo and other species.

After breakfast, return to the lodge before checking out and transferring by road to Biratnagar Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 8 : KATHMANDU TO CHITWAN - FLIGHT AND AFTERNOON WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE

After breakfast, transfer to Kathmandu Airport for your flight to Chitwan. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your jungle lodge, located close to the renowned Chitwan National Park.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chitwan protects an extraordinary landscape of subtropical forests, grasslands, wetlands and river systems. The park is particularly known for its population of greater one-horned rhinoceros and is also home to wild elephants, deer, crocodiles, numerous bird species and the elusive Bengal tiger.

After settling into your lodge and enjoying lunch, set out in the afternoon for your first wildlife activity. Depending on local conditions and the lodge programme, this may include a nature walk, birdwatching or another guided activity in and around the national park, providing an introduction to Chitwan’s remarkable wildlife and natural environment.

Return to the lodge later in the day and enjoy the evening surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of Nepal’s Terai lowlands.

Day 9 : CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK - MORNING AND AFTERNOON WILDLIFE EXPERIENCES

Rise early for a full day dedicated to exploring the remarkable wilderness of Chitwan National Park. Accompanied by experienced local naturalists, venture into the park and surrounding habitats in search of the diverse wildlife that thrives across its forests, grasslands, wetlands and river systems.

Your morning wildlife programme may include a jeep safari, guided nature walk, birdwatching or river-based activity, depending on the lodge programme and local conditions. Keep watch for greater one-horned rhinoceros, several species of deer, wild boar, monkeys, crocodiles and an impressive variety of birdlife. Chitwan is also home to the Bengal tiger, although sightings of this elusive predator are rare and particularly special.

After breakfast, enjoy a further full day exploring the remarkable wilderness of Chitwan National Park. With another day dedicated to wildlife, there are further opportunities to discover different areas and habitats of the park and observe its rich variety of animals and birdlife.

Accompanied by experienced local naturalists, take part in a combination of wildlife activities which may include a jeep safari, guided nature walk, birdwatching or river-based experience, depending on the lodge programme and local conditions. Search for greater one-horned rhinoceros, deer, wild boar, monkeys, crocodiles and some of the many bird species found throughout the park.

Chitwan is also an important habitat for the elusive Bengal tiger and wild elephants. Although sightings can never be guaranteed, spending several days in the region allows you to experience the national park at a relaxed pace while providing further opportunities for memorable wildlife encounters.

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lumbini attracts pilgrims and visitors from across the globe who come to experience its remarkable spiritual and historical significance.

Visit the peaceful Sacred Garden and the Maya Devi Temple, which marks the traditional birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha. Within the temple complex, discover archaeological remains associated with the ancient site and spend time absorbing the tranquil atmosphere surrounding this sacred place.

Nearby, see the historic Ashoka Pillar, erected by the Indian Emperor Ashoka during his pilgrimage to Lumbini in the 3rd century BC. The pillar and its inscription provide important historical evidence identifying Lumbini as the birthplace of the Buddha.

Visit the impressive Devi’s Fall, where water disappears dramatically into an underground gorge, before continuing to the nearby Gupteshwar Mahadev Cave, a sacred cave complex dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Continue to the International Mountain Museum, which provides a fascinating introduction to the Himalayas, Nepal’s mountain communities and the history of mountaineering in the region.
