Sweep from highland Mexico City to jungle-wrapped Chiapas and the Yucatán’s Maya heartlands before unwinding on the Caribbean coast. Begin in the capital’s historic core—Zócalo, Metropolitan Cathedral and the peerless National Museum of Anthropology—then stride the Avenue of the Dead at monumental Teotihuacan and pay respects at the Basilica of Guadalupe.

Fly south to Tuxtla Gutiérrez for a boat journey through the towering walls of Sumidero Canyon, then settle in highland San Cristóbal de las Casas. Encounter living Tzotzil Maya culture in San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán, before descending to Chiapas’s turquoise waterfalls and on to jungle-fringed Palenque, where temples and bas-reliefs reveal the brilliance of Classic Maya civilisation.

Track the Gulf coast to pastel-walled Campeche, then explore elegant Uxmal with its Puuc façades and the soaring Pyramid of the Magician. In white-stone Mérida, stroll Paseo de Montejo and delve into geology and myth at the Cuzamá cenotes, swimming in limpid cavern pools linked to the Chicxulub impact.

Continue to iconic Chichén Itzá—the Temple of Kukulkán, the vast ball court and the Sacred Cenote—before boarding the modern Maya Train to bohemian Tulum. Unwind on powdery beaches or wander cliff-top ruins above turquoise seas. A thoughtfully paced journey of archaeology, nature and living traditions, ending with sea breezes and sunlit ease.

Day 3 : MEXICO CITY: CITY TOUR & ANTHROPOLOGY MUSEUM

After breakfast, meet your guide in the hotel lobby at 08:00 for a classic introduction to the capital. Begin in the historic heart at the Zócalo (main square), home to the imposing Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace. Stroll the surrounding streets to take in layers of pre-Hispanic foundations, colonial grandeur and modern bustle.

Continue to the world-renowned National Museum of Anthropology, whose galleries trace Mexico’s ancient civilisations. On your guided visit, see the celebrated Aztec Sun Stone, expressive Olmec heads, and vivid Maya pieces, alongside scale models that bring pre-colonial cities to life. Return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Enjoy dinner at Bellini’s (adults only). Dress smart-casual and allow time for city views before/after your seating.

Visit Notes

• Museums are cool indoors—carry a light layer and comfy walking shoes.
• Large bags may need to be checked at the museum cloakroom.
• Hydrate steadily; Mexico City sits at ~2,240 m altitude.
• Traffic can affect timings; your guide may adjust the order of visits.

Overnight: Mexico City.

Day 4 : MEXICO CITY → TEOTIHUACAN → MEXICO CITY (100 KM • ~2 HRS DRIVE)

After breakfast, set out for the monumental ruins of Teotihuacan, a city that flourished long before the Aztecs yet profoundly influenced Mesoamerica. Walk the grand Avenue of the Dead between the Pyramid of the Moon and the awe-inspiring Pyramid of the Sun—one of the world’s largest—taking in temples, platforms and living quarters that hint at a vast, sophisticated civilisation.

Enjoy guided interpretation and then some free time to explore key complexes and viewpoints (climbing access is subject to current site regulations and may be restricted). On the return to the capital, pay a visit to the revered Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe—both the old and new basilicas—before continuing back to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

Visit Notes

• Teotihuacan is largely exposed: bring sun protection, water and comfortable walking shoes.
• Surfaces are uneven; take care on steps and platforms; follow INAH signage and ranger guidance.
• Modest attire is recommended at the Guadalupe basilicas; photography rules may apply inside.
• Traffic can affect timings—your guide may adjust the order of visits.

Overnight: Mexico City.

Day 5 : MEXICO CITY ✈ TUXTLA GUTIERREZ → SUMIDERO CANYON → SAN CRISTóBAL DE LAS CASAS (70 KM • ~2 HRS BY ROAD)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Tuxtla Gutiérrez (airfare not included). Please schedule a flight that lands by 13:00. On arrival, meet your representative and continue to majestic Sumidero Canyon, a vast gorge carved over millions of years by the Grijalva River.

Board a motorboat for a ~2-hour navigation along the canyon floor, where sheer walls rise dramatically and rainforest vegetation clings to the cliffs. Keep watch for crocodiles, spider/howler monkeys and varied birdlife. After disembarking, drive uphill to the cool highland town of San Cristóbal de las Casas and check into your hotel late afternoon.

Travel & Visit Notes

• Flight to Tuxtla Gutiérrez (TGZ) should arrive no later than 13:00 to operate today’s boat tour.
• Lifejackets are provided on the boat; bring sun protection, a hat and a light rain layer (spray possible).
• Keep valuables dry in a small waterproof bag; bathrooms are limited along the river.
• San Cristóbal sits at ~2,200 m; evenings can be cool—carry a warm layer.

Overnight: San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Day 6 : SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS → SAN JUAN CHAMULA & ZINACANTáN → SAN CRISTóBAL (30 KM • ~1.5 HRS)

After breakfast, travel to San Juan Chamula, famed for its whitewashed church with colourful trim and a pine-scented, candlelit interior. Witness living Tzotzil Maya traditions and syncretic rites (no photography inside). Locals wear distinctive dress—men in woollen chujes, women in embroidered huipiles—and the town is renowned for exquisite weaving.

Continue to nearby Zinacantán, another Tzotzil community known for floral-textile motifs and backstrap-loom work. Visit a family workshop to see techniques and, time permitting, sample warm tortillas with local salsas. Return to San Cristóbal and enjoy the afternoon at leisure—consider the baroque Santo Domingo church and the adjacent artisan & food markets, rich with colour and Maya textiles.

Visit Notes

Respect local customs: ask before photographing people; no photos inside Chamula church.
• Modest attire recommended; carry a light layer—highland weather can shift quickly.
• Support artisans fairly: prefer direct purchases from makers; card use may be limited—bring small MXN cash.
• Streets are cobbled—wear comfortable walking shoes.

Overnight: San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Day 7 : SAN CRISTOBAL → WATERFALLS → PALENQUE (230 KM • ~5.5 HRS)

We’ll collect you early from your hotel for the journey towards Palenque. Enjoy breakfast en route as we drive north-east into the lush lowlands to visit some of Chiapas’s most spectacular waterfalls—renowned for their turquoise pools, travertine terraces and jungle setting. Pack your swimsuit: there’s time to take a refreshing dip in a designated natural pool (conditions permitting) and relax amid mist and birdsong.

After ample time to wander trails, photograph cascades and swim, continue by road to Palenque, arriving mid-/late afternoon. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Visit Notes

• Typical sites include renowned Chiapas cascades (e.g., Agua Azul and/or Misol-Há); the exact stop(s) may vary by season and conditions.
• Bring water shoes or sturdy sandals, towel, insect repellent and reef-safe sunscreen; paths can be wet and uneven.
• Swimming areas are clearly marked; follow lifeguard/guide instructions and avoid strong currents after heavy rain.
• A light rain layer is useful; facilities en route are simple—carry MXN cash for snacks/toilets.
• Palenque is warmer and more humid than San Cristóbal—have a light, breathable layer for arrival.

Overnight: Palenque.

Day 8 : PALENQUE → CAMPECHE (360 KM • ~4.5 HRS)

After breakfast, explore the majestic Temples of Palenque, among the finest achievements of Maya architecture. On a guided tour, admire elegant roof combs, intricate bas-reliefs and sculpted panels that once adorned a thriving city-state spread over some 60 km². Highlights include the Temple of the Inscriptions (resting place of the ruler Pakal), the Palace, the Temple of the Cross and the Temple of the Count. Though only a fraction of this UNESCO site has been excavated, more than 200 structures have already come to light.

Following the visit, drive north to the fortified coastal city of Campeche. On arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure amid pastel façades and sea breezes along the malecón.

Visit Notes

Palenque is hot and humid—bring water, sun protection and breathable clothing.
• Surfaces are uneven; wear sturdy walking shoes and follow site signage.
• Photography is generally allowed outdoors; restrictions may apply inside select structures.
• The road to Campeche is long but scenic—pack snacks and a light layer for the A/C coach.

After breakfast, enjoy a panoramic tour of historic Campeche. Drive through the pastel-hued old town to admire colonial houses, arcaded streets and churches, then alight to stroll a segment of the city walls and visit St. Francis Cathedral, guardians of this fortified Gulf port.

Continue to the UNESCO-listed city of Uxmal, whose elegant Puuc architecture lifts above the jungle canopy. On your guided visit, take in the soaring Pyramid of the Magician (~35 m), the exquisitely carved Nunnery Quadrangle, the ball court, the richly decorated Governor’s Palace, and the Great Pyramid (partially excavated). Reliefs of serpents, masks and latticework showcase a refinement that sets Uxmal apart in the Maya world.

Travel onward to Mérida, the white city of Yucatán. On arrival, take a short panoramic tour featuring the gracious residential district, the Monumento a la Patria and stately Paseo de Montejo, lined with belle-époque mansions. Check in to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Visit Notes

Uxmal is largely sun-exposed—bring water, hat and high-SPF sunscreen; wear sturdy walking shoes.
• Some structures may have restricted access; follow site signage and guide instructions.
• Mérida evenings are warm; a light, breathable layer is ideal for a sunset stroll along Montejo.

Overnight: Mérida.

Day 10 : MERIDA → CENOTES DE CUZAMA (SANTA BARBARA) → MéRIDA (95 KM • ~2 HRS)

After breakfast, set out for the famed Cenotes de Cuzamá (Santa Bárbara), part of the Yucatán’s
extraordinary “Cenote Ring” — a semicircle of sinkholes linked to the asteroid impact that formed the
Chicxulub crater some 65 million years ago. Visit three contrasting cenotes and learn how these
limestone wells shaped Maya lifeways, ecology and ritual.

Descend by stairways and platforms into caverns of crystal-clear water for a refreshing swim or
optional snorkel (visibility is typically excellent). Between dips, your guide discusses the geology,
aquifer and endemic species that inhabit this subterranean world. After time for a relaxed lunch on site,
return to Mérida by afternoon.

Swim & Safety Notes

• Bring swimsuit, quick-dry towel, water shoes or sturdy sandals (wet, uneven surfaces).
Lifejackets are typically available and may be mandatory in some cenotes.
• Use only reef-safe sunscreen (apply after swimming where requested) and quick-rinse before entry.
• Lockers/showers on site; carry small MXN cash for rentals, snacks and tips.
• Mind headroom on stairways; follow staff instructions and posted depth signage.

Overnight: Mérida.

Day 11 : MERIDA → CHICHEN ITZA (125 KM • ~1.5 HRS)

After breakfast, travel into the Yucatán interior to the legendary Maya city of Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders. On a guided tour, take in the geometric perfection of the Temple of Kukulkán (El Castillo) (~25 m), conceived to mirror the Maya calendar and famed for its equinox serpent-shadow illusion.

Explore the vast Great Ball Court, the chilling Tzompantli (Skull Platform), and the Sacred Cenote tied to ritual offerings. Your guide unpacks astronomy, engineering and ceremony that shaped this once-dominant city-state. Enjoy lunch at a typical local restaurant, then continue to your hotel near the site in Pisté.

Visit Notes

• The site is largely sun-exposed—bring hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.
• Surfaces are uneven; wear sturdy walking shoes and follow site signage.
• Access/climbing on structures is typically restricted; comply with INAH rules and ranger guidance.
• Souvenir vendors accept cash; small MXN notes are handy.

Overnight: Chichén Itzá (Pisté).

Day 12 : CHICHEN ITZA → TULUM BY MAYA TRAIN (150 KM • ~4 HRS)

After a delicious breakfast, check out and transfer to the Maya Train station. Board the modern Tren Maya and settle in as the Yucatán unfurls: jungle thickets give way to open plains and colourful towns, offering glimpses of everyday peninsular life. Enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride that celebrates connectivity and a lighter travel footprint. On arrival at Tulum, disembark and transfer to your hotel. Check in and spend the afternoon at leisure—embrace Tulum’s laid-back, bohemian vibe or unwind amid your hotel’s serene surroundings.

Travel Notes

• Have your ticket/QR, photo ID and a small daypack handy; keep valuables close.
• Luggage space is limited—pack carry-on style for the rail segment where possible.
• Trains and stations are air-conditioned—carry a light layer for comfort.
• Cashless is common, but bring small MXN for snacks at stations/kiosks.
• Tulum afternoons are warm; hydrate and use reef-safe sunscreen if heading to the beach.

Overnight: Tulum.

Day 13 : TULUM LEISURE

Enjoy a full day at leisure in Tulum. Unwind on powdery beaches, swim in crystalline Caribbean waters or soak up the town’s relaxed, bohemian vibe. For history and nature lovers, consider Parque El Jaguar, home to the cliff-top Tulum Archaeological Site. Gaze over the turquoise sea from ancient walls, then wander jungle-edged paths alive with coastal flora and birdsong.

Tips for Today

• Beaches and ruins are sun-exposed—bring hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.
• Wear comfortable sandals/shoes for sandy and uneven paths at the site.
• Consider a morning visit to the ruins for cooler temps and softer light.
• Use reef-safe sunscreen; respect signage and cordoned areas at the ruins and in the park.
