Day 1 : DEPART NEW YORK – ARRIVAL IN SAN JOSE & TRANSFER TO HEREDIA

Your Costa Rican adventure begins today as you depart from NEW YORK on your flight to San José, the vibrant capital of Costa Rica. Arrive at the airport in good time, meet our representative at the designated point, and complete your check-in for the transatlantic journey ahead.

During your flight, relax and enjoy the onboard hospitality—whether watching a film, reading a book, or simply dreaming of the lush rainforests, volcanic landscapes, and rich biodiversity that lie ahead. As you cross the Atlantic, the excitement builds for the extraordinary experiences to come.

Arriving in San José the same day, you will be met by our friendly local representative and transferred directly to Heredia, a charming city nestled in Costa Rica’s Central Valley. Known for its colonial architecture, coffee culture, and laid-back atmosphere, Heredia offers a gentle introduction to the country’s warmth and character.

Check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure—perhaps unwinding after your journey, strolling through the peaceful streets, or simply relaxing in preparation for the adventures that await.

Day 2 : HEREDIA – COFFEE PLANTATIONS & LOCAL CULTURE

Awake in the charming city of Heredia, often called the “City of Flowers” for its abundance of vibrant gardens and tree-lined streets. After breakfast, set out to discover the region’s rich coffee-growing heritage and welcoming local culture.

Begin with a visit to a traditional Costa Rican coffee plantation, where the fertile volcanic soil and ideal climate create some of the finest beans in the world. Stroll through lush rows of coffee plants as your expert guide explains the cultivation process, from seedling to harvest, and the artisanal roasting techniques that define Costa Rica’s signature flavour. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup, savouring its rich aroma while taking in views of the surrounding mountains.

Continue your day exploring Heredia’s colonial charm. Wander through its picturesque streets to see the striking Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción, the heart of the city, and browse local markets overflowing with fresh produce, handicrafts, and colourful textiles. Meet friendly vendors and experience the warm hospitality that defines Costa Rican life.

In the afternoon, you may choose to visit a nearby artisan workshop to learn about traditional crafts such as mask-making or pottery, or simply relax in one of Heredia’s leafy parks, watching daily life unfold at a leisurely pace.

Return to your hotel in the evening, where you can enjoy dinner on your own or join locals at a nearby soda (small eatery) to try authentic dishes like casado or gallo pinto. Rest well tonight as your Costa Rican journey is just beginning.

Day 3 : HEREDIA TO TURRIALBA – SCENIC VALLEYS & RURAL CHARM

This morning, leave the colonial charm of Heredia behind and set out on a picturesque journey to Turrialba, a lush agricultural region in Costa Rica’s central highlands. The drive winds through fertile valleys, rolling hills, and rural villages where life moves to the steady rhythm of farming and nature.

Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of coffee and sugarcane plantations, tropical forests, and distant volcanic peaks. Depending on the route and timing, you may have the opportunity to stop at local viewpoints or small markets to sample fresh tropical fruits and savour the atmosphere of everyday Costa Rican life.

Arrive in Turrialba, a laid-back town framed by verdant mountains and known for its friendly locals, rich cultural traditions, and the nearby Turrialba Volcano. Check in to your hotel and take some time to settle in, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the countryside.

The afternoon is free for you to relax or explore at your own pace. You might take a gentle walk around town, visit a local café, or simply enjoy the peaceful rural setting from your hotel’s terrace. For those feeling active, optional excursions can be arranged, such as visits to nearby farms or short hikes in the surrounding foothills.

As evening falls, enjoy dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant, sampling the fresh, hearty flavours that define the region’s cuisine. Rest tonight to prepare for tomorrow’s adventures in the heart of Costa Rica’s lush interior.

Day 4 : TURRIALBA – ARCHAEOLOGICAL & NATURE DISCOVERY

Wake to the fresh mountain air and gentle sounds of the countryside in Turrialba. After breakfast, set out to explore the area’s unique combination of rich history and pristine nature, accompanied by your expert local guide.

Begin with a visit to the fascinating Guayabo National Monument, Costa Rica’s most significant archaeological site. Nestled on the slopes of the Turrialba Volcano, this ancient city dates back more than 3,000 years. Wander among the stone causeways, ceremonial mounds, aqueducts, and petroglyphs as you learn about the mysterious civilisation that once thrived here, long before the arrival of the Spanish.

Next, immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds Turrialba. Depending on the season and your interests, your guide may lead you on a gentle hike through tropical forest trails alive with bird calls and vibrant flora, or arrange a visit to a working farm to see sugarcane or coffee production in action. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of the valley and the imposing silhouette of the Turrialba Volcano.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon with time to relax. You may choose to unwind in the gardens, swim in the pool, or take a quiet stroll through the nearby village. For the adventurous, optional activities such as white-water rafting on the Pacuare River can be arranged (at extra cost).

In the evening, savour a hearty dinner made from fresh, local ingredients while the cool highland breeze drifts in. As night falls, reflect on a day that has woven together Costa Rica’s ancient heritage and breathtaking natural landscapes.

Day 5 : TURRIALBA TO TORTUGUERO – JOURNEY INTO THE HEART OF THE JUNGLE

After an early breakfast, bid farewell to the tranquil highlands of Turrialba and set off on a spectacular journey to the lush, wildlife-rich region of Tortuguero on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast. Today’s travel is an adventure in itself, taking you from winding mountain roads through fertile lowlands to the edge of one of the country’s most unique ecosystems.

En route, pass through banana plantations and rural villages, glimpsing daily life in the Caribbean lowlands. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the local culture, agricultural traditions, and the importance of this region’s natural habitats. Keep an eye out for herons, iguanas, and colourful tropical birds along the roadside.

On arrival at the pier, board a motorised boat for the scenic final leg of the journey. Cruise along winding jungle canals fringed with towering trees, palms, and lianas, where the soundtrack is a symphony of bird calls, monkey chatter, and the gentle splash of water. This serene approach offers your first taste of Tortuguero’s incredible biodiversity.

Arrive at your riverside lodge in time for lunch, surrounded by the tranquillity of the rainforest. After settling in, enjoy the afternoon at leisure to relax in a hammock, explore the lodge’s gardens, or take a short walk to the nearby village of Tortuguero to experience its laid-back Caribbean charm.

As the sun sets, listen to the sounds of the jungle come alive around you. Over dinner, your naturalist guide will brief you on the adventures ahead, including opportunities to spot wildlife and, depending on the season, witness the awe-inspiring nesting of sea turtles on the beach.

Day 6 : TORTUGUERO – WILDLIFE WATCHING BY BOAT & VILLAGE VISIT

Wake to the soothing sounds of the rainforest and the calls of howler monkeys echoing across the canals. After an early breakfast, set out on a guided wildlife-watching boat excursion through the intricate network of waterways that weave through Tortuguero National Park. This region, often referred to as the “Amazon of Costa Rica,” is a haven for an astonishing array of species.

As your boat glides silently through the glassy waters, keep your eyes peeled for sloths hanging from the branches, playful troops of capuchin and spider monkeys, basking caimans, and dazzling birds like toucans, kingfishers, and herons. The stillness of the canals allows for intimate wildlife encounters, while your naturalist guide shares expert knowledge on the delicate balance of this rich ecosystem.

Return to the lodge for lunch before enjoying a guided walk through the charming village of Tortuguero. Learn about its Afro-Caribbean heritage, fishing traditions, and how the community works hand-in-hand with conservation efforts to protect endangered species such as the green sea turtle.

The afternoon is yours to relax at the lodge, swim in the pool, or explore nearby forest trails at your own pace. Depending on the season (July to October), you may have the unforgettable option of joining a night tour to witness sea turtles nesting on the beach – a truly magical natural spectacle (optional at extra cost).

In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, reflecting on a day immersed in the unique beauty and community spirit of Tortuguero.

Day 7 : TORTUGUERO TO ARENAL – VOLCANO VIEWS & HOT SPRINGS

Rise early to the gentle chorus of the rainforest and savour one last breakfast at your riverside lodge. Then, board your boat for a serene cruise back along the jungle canals, offering final glimpses of monkeys leaping through the canopy, exotic birds gliding overhead, and iguanas sunning themselves on branches above the water.

Upon reaching the pier, continue by road through lush lowlands dotted with pineapple and papaya plantations, before the dramatic silhouette of the Arenal Volcano comes into view. Standing at 1,657 metres, this iconic cone-shaped giant dominates the skyline and serves as a breathtaking introduction to one of Costa Rica’s most famous destinations.

Arrive in the charming town of La Fortuna and check into your hotel, where you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the volcano. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. You may choose to take a leisurely stroll through town, browse artisan shops, or unwind in the lush gardens of your hotel.

Later, indulge in one of Arenal’s greatest pleasures – its natural hot springs. Fed by geothermal activity from the volcano, these mineral-rich pools are the perfect way to soothe body and mind after a day of travel. Whether you prefer a quiet soak in a secluded corner or the gentle cascade of a thermal waterfall, the experience is pure bliss.

As evening falls, enjoy dinner with the volcano’s majestic silhouette as your backdrop, its slopes bathed in the warm glow of sunset. Fall asleep tonight to the tranquil sounds of the surrounding rainforest, ready for tomorrow’s adventures in this captivating region.

Day 8 : ARENAL – VOLCANO & RAINFOREST EXPLORATION

Wake to the sight of the majestic Arenal Volcano emerging from the morning mist. After breakfast, set out on a full day of discovery in one of Costa Rica’s most celebrated natural regions, where lush rainforests, volcanic landscapes, and abundant wildlife converge.

Begin with a guided hike along the trails of Arenal Volcano National Park. Walk through regenerating forest and over ancient lava flows as your guide shares the fascinating history of the volcano’s eruptions and the incredible resilience of the surrounding ecosystem. Along the way, keep watch for toucans, motmots, and coatimundis foraging in the undergrowth.

Continue your exploration with a visit to the iconic La Fortuna Waterfall, cascading 70 metres into a crystal-clear pool at the base of the rainforest. The short hike down to the falls is rewarded with spectacular views and the chance to take a refreshing swim in the cool mountain waters.

In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the rainforest canopy on a series of suspension bridges that offer a unique perspective on this biodiverse paradise. From treetop level, spot monkeys leaping from branch to branch, colourful birds darting between leaves, and perhaps even a sloth lounging lazily in the trees.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon with time to relax, or enjoy another soak in the region’s rejuvenating hot springs (optional at extra cost). As evening descends, savour a delicious dinner while the volcano looms in the moonlight – a serene yet powerful reminder of the forces that shaped this extraordinary landscape.

Day 9 : ARENAL TO MONTEVERDE – INTO THE CLOUD FOREST

After breakfast, bid farewell to the dramatic silhouette of Arenal Volcano and begin your journey to the mystical highlands of Monteverde. This scenic transfer is an adventure in itself, combining road and lake travel for a truly immersive experience.

Travel by boat across the serene waters of Lake Arenal, surrounded by lush hillsides and backed by the volcano’s imposing cone. The calm crossing offers ample opportunities for stunning photographs and peaceful reflection as you transition from lowland rainforest to misty mountain terrain.

Upon reaching the opposite shore, continue by road into the cool, elevated landscapes of the Monteverde Cloud Forest region. Winding mountain roads lead you through rolling hills, dairy farms, and pockets of forest shrouded in soft mist, with ever-changing views at every turn.

Arrive in Monteverde by early afternoon and check into your hotel, surrounded by lush gardens alive with hummingbirds and butterflies. The rest of the day is free to unwind and acclimatise to the refreshing highland climate. You may choose to explore the charming town of Santa Elena, sample locally made coffee and chocolate, or simply relax with a book and take in the tranquil scenery.

In the evening, consider joining an optional night walk to experience the cloud forest after dark. Guided by flashlight and expert eyes, you’ll have the chance to spot nocturnal creatures such as tree frogs, kinkajous, and sleeping birds – a magical introduction to Monteverde’s hidden world.

Day 10 : MONTEVERDE – CLOUD FOREST ADVENTURE

Awake to the cool, fresh air of the highlands and the melodic calls of exotic birds. After breakfast, set off to explore the enchanting Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.

Accompanied by a naturalist guide, wander along well-maintained trails through a mist-shrouded forest where towering trees are draped in orchids, mosses, and bromeliads. The cool, humid environment nurtures a dazzling array of flora and fauna, from rare resplendent quetzals to hummingbirds darting among the flowers.

Venture onto suspension bridges that hang high above the forest floor, offering panoramic views of the canopy and the chance to spot monkeys, sloths, and vibrant tropical birds. The ethereal atmosphere, with sunlight filtering through drifting clouds, makes this a truly otherworldly experience.

In the afternoon, you may choose from a variety of optional activities to further immerse yourself in Monteverde’s magic. Perhaps visit a local coffee plantation to learn the bean-to-cup process, explore a butterfly or hummingbird garden, or seek thrills with a zipline adventure through the treetops (all optional at extra cost).

Return to your hotel in the evening and enjoy a leisurely dinner while recalling the sights and sounds of the day. The crisp mountain air and tranquil surroundings make Monteverde the perfect place to unwind before continuing your Costa Rican journey.

Day 11 : MONTEVERDE TO MANUEL ANTONIO – PACIFIC COAST PARADISE

After breakfast, leave the misty heights of Monteverde behind and journey south to the sun-kissed shores of Manuel Antonio, home to one of Costa Rica’s most beloved national parks. The scenic drive takes you through rolling hills, vibrant towns, and stretches of lush countryside before reaching the sparkling waters of the Pacific Coast.

Along the way, you may catch glimpses of scarlet macaws flying overhead, roadside fruit stands overflowing with tropical produce, and sweeping ocean views as the road hugs the shoreline. This is Costa Rica at its most picturesque – a blend of verdant landscapes and golden beaches.

Arrive in Manuel Antonio by early afternoon and check into your hotel, ideally located for both beach relaxation and national park exploration. The rest of the day is free to unwind – perhaps take a dip in the pool, stroll along the beach, or simply enjoy the laid-back coastal atmosphere.

As the sun sets over the Pacific, sip on a fresh fruit cocktail and watch the sky blaze in shades of orange, pink, and gold. Manuel Antonio is known for its spectacular sunsets, and tonight’s display will be the perfect introduction to your time in this tropical paradise.

Day 12 : MANUEL ANTONIO – NATIONAL PARK EXPLORATION

Wake to the sound of ocean waves and tropical birdsong before setting off for a guided exploration of the world-renowned Manuel Antonio National Park. Though one of Costa Rica’s smallest parks, it is celebrated for its extraordinary biodiversity and breathtaking scenery.

Follow your naturalist guide along forest trails that meander through lush rainforest, where three species of monkeys – white-faced capuchin, squirrel, and howler – leap between branches. Keep your eyes peeled for sloths lounging in the treetops, iguanas basking in the sun, and a dazzling array of birdlife including toucans and tanagers.

The park’s pristine beaches are among the most beautiful in the country. After your hike, relax on the powdery white sand, swim in the warm turquoise waters, or simply enjoy the stunning coastal views framed by verdant jungle.

In the afternoon, you have free time to explore at your own pace. You might revisit the park to wander lesser-known trails, join an optional catamaran cruise along the coast (extra cost), or return to your hotel to unwind by the pool.

As evening falls, enjoy the vibrant dining scene of Manuel Antonio and nearby Quepos, where fresh seafood, international flavours, and lively music create the perfect end to your day of adventure.

Day 13 : MANUEL ANTONIO – LEISURE IN TROPICAL BLISS

Today is yours to enjoy the laid-back charm and natural beauty of Manuel Antonio at your own pace. Wake up to the fresh ocean breeze and savour a leisurely breakfast with panoramic views of the Pacific.

Perhaps spend your morning strolling along the golden beaches, where the jungle meets the sea, and gentle waves lap the shore. If you prefer a touch of adventure, you might opt for an optional kayaking excursion through mangrove waterways or a horseback ride along secluded coastal trails (available at extra cost).

For those who can’t get enough of wildlife, return to Manuel Antonio National Park to seek out more of its resident creatures – from playful monkeys to colourful butterflies – or take a guided nature walk in the surrounding forests.

In the afternoon, unwind by your hotel’s pool, sip on fresh tropical juices, and watch the sun paint the horizon in fiery hues. This final day by the coast is a chance to slow down, reflect on your journey, and soak up the pura vida spirit that defines Costa Rica.

Day 14 : MANUEL ANTONIO – FINAL DAY OF COASTAL LEISURE

Your last full day in Manuel Antonio is free for you to enjoy as you wish. Wake up to the soothing sounds of the ocean and take in the spectacular coastal views one more time.

Spend the morning soaking up the sun on the pristine beaches, where the warm Pacific waters invite you for a swim. You may choose to indulge in an optional spa treatment at your hotel or join a short boat trip along the coast in search of dolphins and sea turtles (extra cost).

In the afternoon, wander into nearby Quepos to browse local markets, shop for handmade crafts, or simply enjoy a cup of Costa Rican coffee at a seaside café. Alternatively, remain at your resort, basking in the poolside tranquillity and savouring the tropical setting.

As evening falls, relish a final beachfront dinner, accompanied by the gentle sound of waves and the glow of another spectacular Pacific sunset. Tomorrow, you will bid farewell to Costa Rica’s enchanting shores.
