Whether you choose exploration, relaxation, or a mix of both, this leisurely day in Cusco is the perfect balance before your journey continues.

Day 9 : CUSCO TO LA PAZ – ARRIVAL & LEISURE

After breakfast, transfer to Cusco Airport for your flight to La Paz, the extraordinary Bolivian capital cradled high in the Andes. As your plane descends, prepare for an unforgettable arrival—La Paz reveals itself like a sprawling amphitheatre, with terracotta rooftops cascading down steep hillsides and snow-capped Mount Illimani towering on the horizon.

Upon arrival, you’ll be met by our local representative and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Take the remainder of the day at leisure, allowing time to adjust to the altitude—La Paz sits at over 3,600 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest capitals in the world.

Day 10 : LA PAZ SIGHTSEEING – CULTURE, HISTORY & HIGH-ALTITUDE VIEWS

Awake in the extraordinary city of La Paz, where every street seems to defy gravity and every view is framed by the snow-dusted peaks of the Andes. After breakfast, meet your expert local guide for a day of discovery through one of the world’s most dramatic capitals, blending indigenous traditions, colonial heritage, and modern urban energy.

Begin your exploration at the bustling Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas), a fascinating open-air bazaar where stalls are piled high with medicinal herbs, mystical charms, colourful textiles, and traditional remedies used in Aymara rituals. Here, the scent of incense mingles with the vibrant chatter of vendors, offering a unique glimpse into Bolivia’s living traditions.

Continue to the historic Plaza Murillo, home to the imposing Presidential Palace, the neoclassical Cathedral of La Paz, and the National Congress building. As you wander, your guide will share stories of the city’s turbulent political history and its enduring resilience.

From here, ride the modern Mi Teleférico cable car system, gliding silently above the city’s chaotic streets for panoramic views that stretch from the densely packed valley floor to the sprawling plateau of El Alto. The sweeping vistas reveal La Paz’s unique geography—a city cradled in a vast natural bowl, crowned by the majestic Mount Illimani.

Your sightseeing continues with a visit to the surreal landscapes of Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna), a maze of jagged clay spires and eroded canyons sculpted by centuries of wind and rain. The otherworldly scenery feels far removed from the bustling capital, yet lies just a short drive away.

Return to the city in the late afternoon, with time to browse artisan shops or relax at one of La Paz’s inviting cafés. As evening falls, consider sampling Bolivian fusion cuisine at a local restaurant, where traditional ingredients meet contemporary culinary creativity. Rest tonight knowing you’ve experienced the captivating blend of culture, history, and natural beauty that defines La Paz.

Day 11 : LA PAZ TO UYUNI – GATEWAY TO THE SALT FLATS

This morning, transfer to La Paz Airport for your flight to Uyuni, the remote Bolivian town that serves as the gateway to one of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth—the Salar de Uyuni. As you descend, the scenery shifts dramatically from the jagged peaks of the Andes to vast open plains stretching endlessly beneath a cobalt sky.

On arrival, meet your local driver-guide and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and adjust to the high-altitude desert environment. At over 3,600 metres above sea level, the air is crisp and the light is dazzling—perfect for slowing the pace before tomorrow’s adventure into the salt flats.

If you’re eager to explore, take a gentle walk through the small town of Uyuni, where murals, colourful markets, and the scent of freshly baked bread from local panaderías welcome visitors. You might also choose to visit the Train Cemetery (Cementerio de Trenes), an open-air relic of the region’s railway past, where rusting locomotives sit silhouetted against the bright Andean sky.

Alternatively, simply rest at your hotel and enjoy the stark beauty of the surrounding desert. In the evening, savour a hearty Bolivian dinner—perhaps quinoa soup or llama steak—while the temperature drops and a canopy of stars begins to blanket the sky. The clear highland air here offers some of the best stargazing in the world.

Tonight, sleep well in anticipation of tomorrow’s journey across the shimmering expanse of the Salar de Uyuni, a surreal landscape that promises to be one of the most unforgettable highlights of your South American adventure.

Day 12 : COQUESA & THUNUPA VOLCANO – PANORAMA OF THE UYUNI SALT FLATS

Set out across the Altiplano towards the tiny village of Coquesa, nestled at the foot of the majestic Thunupa Volcano—mythic guardian of the shimmering Uyuni Salt Flats. As the road skirts the blinding white crust of the Salar de Uyuni, the landscape shifts from ethereal salt polygons to ochre and crimson slopes, where wind and sun sculpt colours that seem almost otherworldly.

Arriving in Coquesa, you’ll notice ancient stone corrals dotting the foothills—neat squares arranged like a highland chessboard. Here, shepherds amble with their llamas and alpacas, and families tend fields of quinoa rooted in the fertile volcanic soils. The rhythm of life is timeless, shaped by altitude, seasons, and the protective presence of Thunupa.

Begin the gentle ascent along the volcano’s flank, where multi-hued layers of sedimentary rock unfold in a fantastic spectrum—saffron, russet, ash grey, and rose—each stratum whispering a chapter of Bolivia’s geologic story. With every turn, the air grows clearer, the silence deeper, and the vistas more expansive.

Near the crater rim, pause at a breathtaking lookout. Below, the Uyuni Salt Flats stretch to the horizon like a boundless mirror—glittering in the dry season, glassy and reflective after rains. The view from Thunupa is among the very best in all of the Salar de Uyuni: islands rise like dark ships from a frozen sea, 4x4s trace faint lines across the white, and distant mountains float in the heat haze.

Savour unhurried time to take photographs and simply absorb the scale—sky and salt dissolving into a single luminous plane. As you descend, the afternoon light warms the volcano’s palette and long shadows stitch patterns across the salar. Return to your lodge with memory cards full and a renewed sense of wonder, ready for tomorrow’s continued exploration of Bolivia’s most iconic landscape.

Day 13 : UYUNI TO PUNO – ACROSS THE ANDES TO THE SHORES OF LAKE TITICACA

After breakfast, bid farewell to the surreal landscapes of the Salar de Uyuni and begin your journey back across the high Andean plateau. Transfer to Uyuni Airport for your flight to La Paz, where you’ll connect onwards towards Puno, the Peruvian gateway to the legendary Lake Titicaca—the world’s highest navigable lake.

The route takes you through spectacular highland scenery, where sweeping valleys give way to rugged peaks and isolated farming villages. At certain points, the road parallels the shimmering blue waters of Lake Titicaca, with distant islands breaking the horizon and llamas grazing in the golden puna grasslands.

Upon arrival in Puno, transfer to your hotel overlooking the lake. The remainder of the day is yours at leisure to rest after your long journey or take a gentle stroll along the lakeside promenade. The crisp mountain air and soft light at this altitude create a serene atmosphere that invites you to slow down and absorb your surroundings.

If you feel energised, explore the town’s bustling markets, where local Aymara and Quechua traders sell colourful textiles, handwoven hats, and fresh produce. The mix of traditional dress, friendly smiles, and vibrant displays offers a warm introduction to this highland community.

This evening, enjoy dinner at your own pace—perhaps trying trucha a la plancha (grilled trout) freshly caught from the lake—before retiring for the night. Tomorrow, the mysteries and beauty of Lake Titicaca await.

Day 14 : LAKE TITICACA EXPLORATION – UROS & TAQUILE ISLANDS

Awake to the crisp highland air and the shimmering expanse of Lake Titicaca, a place steeped in myth and revered as the cradle of the Inca civilisation. After breakfast, head to the pier to board your boat for a full-day exploration of two of the lake’s most fascinating islands—Uros and Taquile.

Your journey begins with the unique Uros Floating Islands, an extraordinary community built entirely from totora reeds that grow in the shallow waters. Step onto the spongy surface and meet the local families who maintain this centuries-old tradition. Learn how the islands are constructed, see reed boats in various stages of building, and gain insight into a way of life that has adapted ingeniously to the lake’s environment.

Continue across the deep blue waters to Taquile Island, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. As you ascend along stone paths lined with wildflowers, panoramic views of the lake and surrounding Andes unfold at every turn. The islanders here follow a communal way of life and are celebrated for their exceptional weaving, recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage.

Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by the local community, perhaps featuring quinoa soup, grilled trout, or oca (Andean tuber), while learning about the island’s customs, colourful dress, and unique social organisation. There’s time to browse handwoven textiles and crafts before beginning your return journey by boat.

In the late afternoon, arrive back in Puno as the sun casts a golden glow over the lake. Spend your evening at leisure—relaxing at your hotel, strolling the lakeside, or enjoying a quiet dinner while reflecting on the beauty and traditions of Lake Titicaca.

Day 15 : PUNO TO THE PERUVIAN AMAZON – INTO THE HEART OF THE RAINFOREST

This morning, depart Puno and begin your journey towards one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth—the Peruvian Amazon. Transfer to the airport for your flight via Lima to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the southern Amazon basin. As the aircraft descends, the scenery transforms from rugged Andean peaks to a seemingly endless sea of emerald-green rainforest stretching to the horizon.

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your lodge’s naturalist guide and transferred to the river port. Board a motorised canoe for a scenic journey along the winding Madre de Dios River, where the dense jungle presses close to the water’s edge and the air hums with the calls of tropical birds. Keep your eyes peeled for herons, macaws, and even the occasional capybara sunning itself on the banks.

Arrive at your Amazon lodge, a secluded retreat built in harmony with its surroundings. After a welcome drink and orientation, settle into your thatched cabana and take a moment to soak in the sounds of the forest—the rustle of palm fronds, the distant roar of howler monkeys, and the gentle lapping of the river.

The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. You may choose to relax in a hammock, wander along the lodge’s garden trails, or join an optional guided walk to discover the rainforest’s medicinal plants and unique flora. As night falls, the Amazon comes alive in a different way—glowing fireflies drift through the darkness, frogs sing in chorus, and the canopy hides countless nocturnal creatures.

Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared with fresh local ingredients before retiring to your room. Surrounded by the heartbeat of the jungle, you’ll drift to sleep knowing that tomorrow you will venture deeper into the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest.

Day 16 : AMAZON EXPLORATION – WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS & JUNGLE TRAILS

Awake to the dawn chorus of the Amazon Rainforest—a symphony of bird calls, monkey chatter, and the soft rustle of leaves in the morning breeze. After breakfast, set out with your expert naturalist guide for a day immersed in one of the planet’s richest ecosystems.

Begin with a hike along rainforest trails, where your guide will point out medicinal plants, towering kapok trees, and intricate webs spun by golden orb spiders. Watch for flashes of colour as macaws and toucans flit between the branches, and listen for the distant drumming of a woodpecker or the rustle of a passing agouti.

Later, take to the water in a dugout canoe or small boat to explore an oxbow lake. Glide quietly over the mirrored surface, scanning for giant river otters playing among the reeds, prehistoric-looking hoatzin birds perched low in the vegetation, and the occasional caiman basking in the sun.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then enjoy a free afternoon to relax in a hammock, swim in a natural river pool, or join an optional workshop on Amazonian cooking or handicrafts. As the day cools, embark on a guided twilight walk—when tarantulas, tree frogs, and other nocturnal creatures emerge under the cover of darkness. The forest at night is alive with mystery, its sounds magnified in the inky blackness.

After dinner, fall asleep to the steady hum of the jungle, knowing tomorrow offers yet more chances to uncover the Amazon’s secrets.

Day 17 : DEEPER INTO THE AMAZON – CANOPY VIEWS & RIVER ADVENTURES

Rise early for one of the most memorable experiences in the Amazon—a walk along a canopy walkway suspended high among the treetops. From this vantage point, the forest reveals a different world: monkeys leap between branches, parrots streak overhead in flashes of green and red, and the morning mist drifts slowly over the emerald expanse.

After breakfast, embark on a longer excursion deeper into the reserve. Depending on water levels and lodge location, you might explore hidden tributaries by boat, visit a remote clay lick where macaws and parrots gather in spectacular numbers, or trek to secluded areas where wildlife sightings are at their most rewarding.

Return to the lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest. In the afternoon, take part in a guided cultural activity with members of a nearby indigenous community, learning about traditional fishing methods, medicinal plant use, and the deep spiritual connection between the people and the forest.

As your final evening in the Amazon arrives, enjoy a farewell dinner to the sounds of the night. Reflect on the unforgettable moments—spotting a family of otters, hearing howler monkeys at dawn, or watching the sun set over the Madre de Dios River—and savour your last night embraced by the magic of the rainforest.

Day 18 : AMAZON TO LIMA – RETURN TO THE CITY

Greet your final Amazon morning to the chorus of the rainforest before beginning the journey back to civilisation. After checkout, travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River to the port and continue to Puerto Maldonado Airport for your flight via Lima. As jungle greens fade beneath the wing, the sprawling Pacific capital comes back into view—clifftop promenades, colonial plazas, and the deep-blue ocean beyond.

On arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel in Miraflores or Barranco. The remainder of the day is at leisure to reset your pace after the rainforest. Stretch your legs along the Malecón, where seabreezes sweep the bluffs and surfers dot the waves below, or slip into Barranco’s bohemian lanes—art-filled courtyards, colourful murals, and elegant republican mansions drenched in golden light.

If you’re keen to dive deeper, consider an optional evening activity: a guided walk through the UNESCO-listed centre to admire the illuminated Plaza Mayor and Cathedral of Lima; a relaxed tasting of Peru’s celebrated gastronomy; or a visit to the Magic Water Circuit, where choreographed fountains dance against the night sky.

Return to your hotel to unwind and reflect on the contrast of experiences—Amazon Rainforest canopies to oceanfront boulevards—before tomorrow’s onward journey through Peru’s living history.

Day 19 : DEPART PERU – FAREWELL TO SOUTH AMERICA

Enjoy a leisurely final morning in Lima, savouring breakfast as the city stirs to life. Depending on your flight time, you may wish to take a short stroll along the Malecón for one last view of the Pacific Ocean, browse a few artisan boutiques for final souvenirs, or simply relax at your hotel and reflect on the unforgettable moments of your journey.

When the time comes, transfer to Lima Airport for your international departure.
