Day 1 : DEPART NEW YORK → LIMA

Your Peru highlights tour begins today as you check in at NEW YORK for your international flight to Lima, the captivating capital of Peru. With bags checked and travel documents in hand, anticipation builds for the journey ahead. Leave behind the bustle of NEW YORK and set your sights on South America’s Pacific coast, where history, culture, and adventure await.

Settle into your overnight flight and let the hours unfold high above the Atlantic. Take the opportunity to relax, enjoy in-flight entertainment, or review your personalised itinerary. This is the perfect moment to reset and prepare for the discoveries to come—from ancient Inca wonders to colonial cities, dramatic Andean peaks, and the timeless mystery of Machu Picchu.

With your journey fully ATOL-protected, you can travel with confidence and peace of mind. By tomorrow, you’ll descend into Lima, a city of contrasts where the Pacific Ocean meets Peru’s vibrant urban heart. Your adventure into Peru’s rich culture and landscapes is now officially underway.

Travel notes: International flights to Peru from NEW YORK typically take around 12–13 hours. Check-in opens three hours before departure. Keep passports, e-tickets, and travel insurance details easily accessible for a smooth start.

Day 2 : ARRIVE LIMA → TRANSFER & LEISURE TIME

Touch down in Lima, Peru’s bustling capital perched along the Pacific coastline. After clearing formalities at Jorge Chávez International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred comfortably to your hotel. From the moment you arrive, every detail of your Peru highlights tour is designed to flow smoothly, giving you peace of mind and time to settle in.

The rest of the day is kept free to recover from your long-haul flight. Take the chance to relax and acclimatise, or enjoy a gentle stroll to get your first impressions of Lima. You might glimpse the colonial plazas, modern districts, or the Pacific breeze rolling in from the ocean—hints of the rich contrasts you’ll explore more deeply in the days ahead.

As evening falls, unwind at your hotel or seek out a nearby restaurant to sample Peruvian flavours, from fresh ceviche to fusion dishes that make Lima one of the culinary capitals of the world. Rest well tonight—your adventure into Peru’s history, landscapes, and culture has just begun.

Travel notes: Airport transfers are arranged on a air-conditioned tourist vehicle. Today is intentionally light to allow you to rest and adapt before tomorrow’s sightseeing.

Day 3 : LIMA LEISURE

After yesterday’s adventures, today is yours to enjoy at leisure in Lima, Peru’s vibrant capital. Known as the City of Kings, Lima offers a fascinating blend of colonial architecture, pre-Columbian history, and contemporary flair. Spend the day strolling along the elegant boulevards, relaxing by the Pacific coastline, or simply soaking in the city’s cosmopolitan energy at your own pace.

If you wish to explore more deeply, consider joining a half-day city tour. Begin in the historic Plaza Mayor, surrounded by grand colonial buildings such as the Government Palace and the Cathedral of Lima. Continue to the San Francisco Monastery, famous for its baroque architecture and atmospheric catacombs, a hidden window into Lima’s past.

Round off your day in the modern coastal district of Miraflores, where dramatic clifftop views overlook the Pacific Ocean. Wander through parks, browse boutique shops, or unwind with a coffee in one of the many cafés. For those with a taste for culture, the nearby LARCO Museum offers a world-class collection of pre-Columbian art, housed in a beautiful 18th-century mansion.

Travel notes: Lima is at sea level, making it an ideal starting point for your journey. Use this day to rest after your flight, sample delicious Peruvian cuisine, and prepare for the high-altitude destinations ahead.

Day 4 : LIMA → CUZCO → SACRED VALLEY

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your morning flight from Lima to Cuzco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. As the plane descends, sweeping views of the Andes unfold—rugged peaks, patchwork valleys, and the timeless beauty of Peru’s highlands. This marks the gateway to the legendary Sacred Valley of the Incas.

On arrival, you will be met and transferred down into the Sacred Valley, where the altitude is gentler and the scenery breathtaking. En route, enjoy your first encounters with the valley’s vibrant culture and landscapes: terraced hillsides carved by ancient hands, rushing rivers that cut through the mountains, and colourful villages alive with Andean traditions.

The afternoon is kept light to allow you to acclimatise while soaking in the valley’s serene atmosphere. Take a gentle walk through the surroundings, visit a craft market, or simply relax and absorb the mountain views. With its fertile plains and Incan heritage, the Sacred Valley offers a tranquil start to your exploration of Peru’s highland wonders.

Travel notes: The flight from Lima to Cuzco takes about 1 hour 20 minutes. To ease acclimatisation, we recommend drinking coca tea, avoiding heavy meals, and pacing your activities on your first day at altitude.

Day 5 : SACRED VALLEY → MACHU PICCHU → SACRED VALLEY

Today is one of the highlights of your Peru tour—a chance to stand before the fabled Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Begin the morning with a transfer to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board the scenic train that winds along the Urubamba River, passing lush valleys and soaring peaks on the way to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

From here, a short bus ride carries you up the mountainside to the legendary citadel itself. Hidden for centuries and only rediscovered in 1911, Machu Picchu is regarded as a masterpiece of Incan engineering and one of the world’s foremost examples of landscape architecture. Built as a royal retreat for Incan rulers—who considered themselves descendants of the gods—this “palace in the clouds” offers an unforgettable glimpse into the empire’s grandeur.

Spend around two and a half hours exploring with your expert guide. Marvel at the precision of the stonework, the sweeping mountain views, and the spiritual aura that continues to captivate travellers from around the globe. Afterward, return to Aguas Calientes where, if time allows, you can wander the town at leisure before boarding the train back to the Sacred Valley for an evening at rest.

For added comfort, you may choose to upgrade your train tickets during the booking process—an option that enhances this already unforgettable day with even greater luxury and scenic splendour.

Travel notes: Visits to Machu Picchu are strictly timed and regulated to preserve the site. Ensure you carry your passport for entry, and bring water, sun protection, and comfortable footwear for exploring.

Day 6 : SACRED VALLEY → CUZCO

After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey towards the heart of the Incan Empire—Cuzco. Before leaving, you have the option to take part in the Essence of the Sacred Valley excursion, a perfect farewell to this breathtaking region.

Begin with a stop at the historic church of Chinchero, where Spanish colonial architecture blends with Incan foundations, creating a fascinating glimpse into Peru’s layered past. Continue to the vibrant PARWA Textiles Centre, where you’ll see traditional Andean weaving techniques brought to life in colourful fabrics, each telling a story of heritage and artistry. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Andean culture and perhaps bring home an authentic handmade keepsake.

The journey also takes you to Ollantaytambo’s Incan ruins, one of the last living Inca towns, with its majestic terraces and fortress walls standing as silent guardians of the Sacred Valley. Pause for a traditional lunch before making your way to the Racchi panoramic viewpoint, where sweeping vistas stretch across the valley—an ideal moment to reflect on the beauty and cultural richness you’ve experienced.

By afternoon, arrive in Cuzco, once the capital of the Incan Empire and now a UNESCO World Heritage city brimming with history, charm, and vibrant local life. Settle into your surroundings and look forward to immersing yourself in the wonders of Cuzco in the days ahead.

Travel notes: The drive to Cuzco takes around two hours, with optional stops along the way. Altitude increases noticeably as you approach the city, so take it easy on arrival and stay hydrated.

Day 7 : CUZCO LEISURE

Today is all about Cuzco, a city where Incan heritage and Spanish colonial charm intertwine to create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. With a full day at leisure, you are free to explore the cobblestone streets, bustling markets, and vibrant plazas at your own pace.

Want a little guidance? Opt for a half-day city tour to uncover some of Cuzco’s most celebrated landmarks. Begin at the heart of the city, the Plaza de Armas, framed by striking colonial arcades and the magnificent Cathedral—a masterpiece blending Spanish and Incan artistry. From here, continue to the site of the legendary Koricancha Temple, once the most revered Incan temple dedicated to the Sun God, now transformed into a spectacular Dominican convent.

Your journey culminates in the lively San Blas neighbourhood, the bohemian heart of Cuzco. Narrow lanes lead you to artisan workshops and boutique shops, where local craftspeople showcase exquisite hand-made creations. It’s the perfect place to soak up the city’s creative energy, sip a coffee in a small café, or browse for a unique souvenir to take home.

Travel notes: At 3,399m above sea level, Cuzco is high altitude. Take the day at an easy pace, stay hydrated, and allow time for gentle acclimatisation before more active explorations.

Day 8 : CUZCO – IQUITOS

Bid farewell to the magical highlands of the Sacred Valley as you transfer to the airport this morning for your flight to Iquitos, the vibrant gateway to the northern Amazon Rainforest. Situated on the banks of the mighty Amazon River, Iquitos is a thriving port city that blends colonial heritage with the raw energy of the jungle.

On arrival, you’ll be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax and recharge before your rainforest journey begins. Stroll through lively streets filled with moto-taxis, admire the iron-fronted architecture left by the rubber boom era, or simply rest in preparation for the adventures ahead.

Travel notes: Iquitos is accessible only by air or river, adding to its remote charm. You’re now on the threshold of one of the planet’s most biodiverse regions, with the promise of close encounters with incredible wildlife in the days to come.

Day 9 : INTO THE AMAZON & RIVER LODGE ARRIVAL

Channel your inner explorer as you journey deep into the Amazon Rainforest. Transfer by boat along broad, tea-coloured waters, passing palm-fringed banks and thatched villages while macaws wheel overhead. Arrive at your jungle lodge and settle into your cabin—your base for days of wildlife encounters, river sunsets, and the sounds of the forest after dark.

After orientation and lunch, take a gentle introduction walk with your naturalist guide to learn the secrets of medicinal plants and rainforest ecology. As dusk falls, board a small boat for a nocturnal wildlife outing: watch for caimans’ ember-red eyes, fishing bats, and constellations mirrored on still backwaters.

Travel notes: Activities vary by lodge and seasonal water levels. Lightweight long sleeves, insect repellent, and a head torch are recommended for evening outings.

Day 10 : CANOPY TRAILS, OXBOW LAKE & WILDLIFE WATCHING

Wake to the chorus of howler monkeys and dawn birdsong, then set out on a canopy walkway or observation tower (where available) for sunrise views over a sea of green. Continue by boat to an oxbow lake—prime habitat for hoatzins, herons, and (with luck) playful giant river otters. Glide quietly as kingfishers flash electric-blue and caimans bask on driftwood.

Return for lunch and a siesta, then venture on a forest trail, learning to read tracks and signs—peccary prints, the scratch of an armadillo, the iridescence of morpho butterflies. Late afternoon brings a golden-hour river cruise scanning for pink and grey river dolphins surfacing like polished stone in the fading light.

Travel notes: Wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed. Binoculars are invaluable; carry water and sun protection for lake excursions.

Day 11 : COMMUNITY, FOREST TRADITIONS & SUNSET ON THE RIVER

This morning focuses on Amazonian culture. Visit a riverside community (where included) to learn about sustainable fishing, smallholder gardens, and time-honoured techniques for weaving and food preparation. Taste seasonal fruits and discover how traditional knowledge guides daily life in the rainforest.

In the afternoon, choose between a paddle by canoe through lily-dotted creeks or a guided forest hike seeking trogons, toucans, and squirrel monkeys leaping between cecropia trees. As your Amazon chapter draws to a close, toast the day with a river sunset—the sky igniting in crimson and gold above mirror-calm water.

Travel notes: Community visits are arranged with respect to local schedules and customs. Modest attire and a considerate approach are appreciated.

Day 12 : AMAZON → IQUITOS → LIMA

Bid farewell to the rainforest with one last serene boat journey along the river, scanning the waters for the elusive pink river dolphins that symbolise the magic of the Amazon. Listen to the morning calls of parrots and watch the forest awaken as you make your way back to Iquitos.

On arrival in Iquitos, transfer to the airport and board your flight to Lima. Touch down in the capital city and transfer to your hotel, where the rest of the evening is free to relax or enjoy a final stroll through Lima’s elegant boulevards, lively plazas, or seaside promenade. Overnight in Lima, ready for the journey home.

Travel notes: Keep your camera handy during the return boat ride—you may spot dolphins, herons, or even sloths in the canopy before leaving the jungle behind.

Day 13 : DEPART LIMA

After an unforgettable journey through Peru’s ancient Incan wonders and the untamed beauty of the Amazon rainforest, it’s time to bid farewell. Transfer to Lima’s international airport for your homeward flight, carrying with you a collection of memories that stretch from sacred valleys and misty mountain citadels to jungle rivers alive with wildlife.

As the plane lifts off, reflect on the vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that have made this adventure truly extraordinary.
