Lumle Holidays Ltd., United Kingdom, is issuing an important update regarding the current situation in Nepal following recent reports of civil unrest in Kathmandu.
Earlier today, demonstrations broke out in response to the Nepalese government’s decision to block access to 26 social media applications, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. The restrictions, introduced under new national digital regulations, have sparked widespread protests led largely by student groups and younger citizens.
During the day, the demonstrations escalated and security forces deployed measures such as tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets, and, in limited cases, live ammunition. Reports indicate that 19 people tragically lost their lives, and over 100 others, including members of law enforcement, sustained injuries. Curfews were temporarily enforced in certain areas of Kathmandu to restore calm.
By late evening, authorities confirmed that the situation had stabilised, and normalcy was restored across the capital and other affected regions. Importantly, tourism activities, hotels, and transportation services remain fully operational, and no major disruptions have been reported for international visitors.
