Answer the call of Nepal’s quiet high country on the Rolwaling Valley Trek—a journey to the turquoise basin of Tsho Rolpa, the Sherpa hamlets of Beding and Na, and the snow slopes of Yalung Ri. Threading steep river gorges, mossy rhododendron forests and wind-carved moraine, this is trekking in Nepal at its most intimate: fewer crowds, bigger horizons and day-to-day immersion in living mountain culture beneath the sentinel of Gauri Shankar.

The trail climbs from terrace-cut foothills into a granite corridor where waterfalls stitch the cliffs and prayer flags mark the way. Higher, yak pastures open to glacier views as the valley widens towards Tsho Rolpa, one of Nepal’s largest high lakes, its turquoise surface reflecting serrated ice and dark rock. Ridge-top gompas, mani walls and timber-fronted homes set the cadence of village life while you acclimatise with gentle “walk high, sleep low” hikes.

For strong parties, the optional summit of Yalung Ri adds an accessible alpine flourish: pre-dawn crunch over firm snow to a broad crest with sweeping views across the Rolwaling–Khumbu divide. Even without the summit, balcony paths, glacier benches and golden-hour light over Gauri Shankar deliver career-grade panoramas day after day.

Expect challenging yet steady stages (typically 5–8 hours), basic but welcoming teahouses, and real wilderness character—perfect for trekkers who’ve tasted Nepal before and want something deeper, quieter and more rugged. Permits for the Gaurishankar Conservation Area (plus TIMS as applicable) are arranged, and the itinerary is paced for safe acclimatisation around 4,000–4,600 m.

In a sentence: The Rolwaling Valley Trek blends pristine high-alpine scenery, authentic Sherpa villages and the option to crest Yalung Ri—a rare, crowd-free circuit that captures the soul of the Himalaya.

Day 1 : DEPART NEW YORK → KATHMANDU: LAUNCHING YOUR ROLWALING VALLEY TREK

Your Rolwaling Valley Trek begins at NEW YORK. Arrive about 3 hours before departure for your long-haul NEW YORK to Kathmandu flight—the opening chapter of unforgettable trekking in Nepal towards Tsho Rolpa, the high hamlets of Beding and Na, and the towering presence of Gauri Shankar.

Flight note: Routings are typically a one-stop connection (e.g., Doha, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul or Delhi). Check your baggage allowance in the airline app. Pack trekking poles, liquids & multi-tools in checked luggage; keep power banks, valuables and medication in your carry-on. Wear or carry your broken-in hiking shoes.

Clear security, hydrate and stretch. On board, sip water regularly, take brief aisle walks and keep caffeine/alcohol modest to arrive fresher for Kathmandu (KTM). A neck pillow, eye mask and earphones help with rest on the overnight sector.

Permits & paperwork (Rolwaling): We arrange the Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP) and TIMS (as applicable). Carry your original passport (no scans), at least 2 passport photos, and travel insurance details covering trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation.

Time-zone tip: After take-off, set your watch to Nepal Standard Time (UTC+5:45) to ease jet-lag. Keep the airline app open for live gate and baggage updates.

As cabin lights dim and stars arc beyond the wing, NEW YORK’s glow fades to silence. Tomorrow you’ll descend into the Kathmandu Valley—gateway to gear checks, briefings and the quiet trails leading into the Rolwaling heartland.

Flight summary: NEW YORK → Kathmandu (KTM), overnight sector; airline, flight numbers and timings as per ticket.

Day 2 : ARRIVE KATHMANDU (KTM) & LEISURE: SETTLE INTO THE ROLWALING GATEWAY

Touch down in Kathmandu, the launchpad for your Rolwaling Valley Trek. As the aircraft arcs over terrace-cut hills and temple spires, the mind drifts to Tsho Rolpa, the high hamlets of Beding and Na, and the striking pyramid of Gauri Shankar—a classic horizon for trekking in Nepal. After arrival formalities, meet our representative for your transfer to the hotel. Keep the rest of the day light: today is your soft landing before the quiet trails of Rolwaling.

Arrival note: Immigration and baggage reclaim can be busy at peak times. Have your passport, e-visa (if applicable), hotel address and local contact handy. Keep essentials—warm layer, medication, phone/power bank—in your hand luggage for quick access.

Once checked in, rest, rehydrate and ease into the time zone (~1,400 m is perfect for a gentle start). If you’re up for a short stroll later, wander Thamel’s lanes for gear spares, or settle into a courtyard café as incense drifts on the afternoon air.

Health & acclimatisation: Hydrate, favour light meals and an early night. Keep caffeine/alcohol modest. A brief daylight walk and a calm evening routine help reset your body clock before heading towards the Rolwaling hills.

Briefing & permits: Meet your trek leader in the early evening for a route briefing and kit review. We’ll confirm your Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP) and TIMS, and run through safety, communications and packing for high valleys around Tsho Rolpa.

If energy allows (optional, extra cost), consider a quiet visit to the great stupa at Boudhanath or the evening aarti at Pashupatinath—evocative introductions to the valley’s living heritage. Otherwise, keep it simple: hot drink, hearty (not heavy) supper, and sleep. Tomorrow the journey tilts towards the Rolwaling Valley.

Day 3 : KATHMANDU FREE DAY: REST, GEAR TUNE-UP & EASY CULTURE

Enjoy a relaxed day in Kathmandu before heading to the hills. Keep the pace gentle—this is your final reset before the Rolwaling Valley Trek and days of classic trekking in Nepal towards Tsho Rolpa, Beding and Na.

Health & recovery: Hydrate well, favour light meals, stretch calves/hips/shoulders, and aim for an early night. Keep caffeine/alcohol modest to arrive fresher for the trail.

Gear tune-up: Do a final kit check (layers, gloves, waterproofs, headlamp, power bank, water treatment). Pick up spares in Thamel—socks, gaiters, gas-free snacks, lip balm, sunscreen. Pack valuables and documents in dry bags.

Admin & comms: Top up cash from ATMs, sort a local SIM/eSIM (if desired), photograph documents (passport, insurance, permits). Reconfirm tomorrow’s meet time with your trek leader.

Optional (extra cost): Rooftop circuit at Boudhanath Stupa; golden hour at Swayambhunath; craft lanes of Patan Durbar Square; spice alleys around Asan; a quiet pause in the Garden of Dreams. Keep walks short and unhurried.

Round off with a hearty (not heavy) supper and pack your daypack for tomorrow—water, snacks, shell, warm layer, sun protection, meds, and documents. Rolwaling’s quiet valleys are calling.

Day 4 : DRIVE TO CHETCHET (CHETCHHET) & TREK TO SIMIGAUN: FIRST STEPS INTO THE ROLWALING

An early start carries us east from Kathmandu through terraced hills and market towns to the river confluence at Chetchet—the trailhead for the Rolwaling Valley Trek. After a stretch and tea, we shoulder daypacks, cross the suspension bridge over the Tama Koshi and climb a steady, stone-stepped path through bamboo and rhododendron towards the ridge-top village of Simigaun. The ascent is short but purposeful, with first views of Gauri Shankar flickering between the trees—an inspiring prologue to classic trekking in Nepal bound for Tsho Rolpa, Beding and Na.

Route facts (approx.): Drive 7–9 hrs Kathmandu → Chetchet (road/traffic dependent). Trek 2–3 hrs • 3–6 km • Net ascent ~600–700 m (from ~1,350 m to ~2,000 m). Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, suspension bridge, village paths.

The climb threads cardamom plots and mossy spurs, with the river murmuring far below. As we crest the final rise, Simigaun appears on a sunny shoulder, its gompa and prayer flags overlooking the valley—an atmospheric first night in the Rolwaling hills.

Trail safety: Keep spacing on steep steps and cross the bridge one at a time. In warmer/wet months trails can be slick (and leeches active)—use trekking poles, wear long socks, and apply repellent as needed. Stay to the inside on narrow paths and yield to porters/livestock.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun protection, cap, personal meds, blister kit, headlamp, snacks, and phone/camera in dry bags. Keep valuables zipped during roadside/photo stops.

Cultural note (Simigaun): Walk clockwise around the gompa, keep left of mani walls, and ask before photographing people. Evenings can be cool—layer up and enjoy ridge-top views as prayer flags lift in the valley breeze.

Overnight in a simple teahouse at Simigaun—the first foothold of the journey into the quiet heart of the Rolwaling Valley.

Day 5 : SIMIGAUN → DHONGANG (DONGANG): INTO THE ROLWALING GORGE

We leave Simigaun on a contouring path that drops towards the Rolwaling Khola, then climb steadily through rhododendron, hemlock and bamboo to the riverside hamlet of Dhongang (also written Dongang). The trail threads mossy spurs, cardamom plots and cliff-side balconies with the river thundering below—an immersive first full stage of the Rolwaling Valley Trek and classic trekking in Nepal bound for Beding, Na and Tsho Rolpa.

Trail facts (approx.): 5–7 hours • 8–12 km • Net ascent ~700–900 m (to ~2,700–2,850 m) with short downs/ups • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, suspension bridges, occasional rocky/landslide gullies.

After crossing the river, the climb is purposeful but scenic—switchbacks through ferny shade, clearings with first long looks into the upper valley, and the soundtrack of water and birdsong. Tea stops appear at small sheds or homesteads; pace remains conversational as we settle into multi-day rhythm.

Safety & etiquette: Keep to the inside on narrow traverses; give way to porters and livestock. Cross suspension bridges one at a time. In warm/wet months, trails can be slick and leeches active—use poles, wear long socks, and apply repellent. Helmets are not required but stay alert in any landslip-prone gully.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun protection, cap, thin gloves, personal meds, blister kit, headlamp, snacks, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Arrive in Dhongang beside the river for a simple teahouse night—hot meal, stove-warm dining room and the steady hush of the Rolwaling Khola. Tomorrow the path presses deeper into the valley towards higher pastures and village life.

Day 6 : DHONGANG → BEDING: INTO HIGH PASTURES BENEATH GAURI SHANKAR

We follow the Rolwaling Khola deeper into the valley, climbing through rhododendron, hemlock and larch as waterfalls thread the cliffs. The gorge eases into high pastures and stone-walled fields on the approach to the Sherpa stronghold of Beding—the largest village in the valley and a milestone on the Rolwaling Valley Trek. On clear days, facets of Gauri Shankar peek between ridges—an inspiring backdrop to classic trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.): 5–7.5 hours • 10–14 km • Net ascent ~800–1,000 m • Overnight elevation ~3,690 m at Beding • Underfoot: forest singletrack, stone steps, suspension bridges, short rocky/landslide gullies.

The day’s rhythm alternates steady climbs with balcony traverses above the river. Mani walls and prayer flags begin to appear, and yak pastures open the views as we near the village. Tea stops are simple and friendly—perfect for water refills and a bite before the final rise into Beding.

Safety & pacing: Cross bridges one at a time; keep spacing in any landslip-prone gully and follow your leader’s line. Use trekking poles on damp steps and loose grit. You’re approaching higher altitude—maintain a conversational pace, hydrate steadily and add layers promptly during rests.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, hat & gloves, sun protection, personal meds, blister kit, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Arrive in Beding to timber-fronted homes, a ridge-top gompa and paddocks edged with stone. Settle into a simple teahouse, stretch out the legs and enjoy the river-borne hush. If time/energy allow, walk clockwise to the gompa at golden hour; always keep left of mani walls and ask before photographing residents. Tomorrow, the trail arcs higher to Na and the glacier-fed basin of Tsho Rolpa.

Day 7 : BEDING ACCLIMATISATION DAY: WALK HIGH, SLEEP LOW BENEATH GAURI SHANKAR

A purposeful pause in Beding (~3,690 m), the Sherpa heart of the Rolwaling Valley Trek. Timber-fronted homes, a ridge-top gompa and yak paddocks set a calm tone while the pyramid of Gauri Shankar peeks between ridges. We use today to walk high and sleep low—lifting our ceiling with an easy acclimatisation hike, then returning to rest, rehydrate and enjoy village life.

Hike options (choose one; approx.):
Beding Gompa Ridge: gain 300–400 m; 3–4 hrs round-trip; balcony views over the Rolwaling Khola and terraces.
Towards Na: gentle out-and-back up-valley; gain 250–350 m; 3–5 hrs total, turning back before Na to keep the “sleep low” principle.
High knoll above village (conditions/leader’s call): gain 450–550 m; 4–5 hrs; mixed pasture and moraine for wider looks to Tsho Rolpa basin.

Altitude & wellbeing: Keep a conversational pace, sip water regularly, snack little-and-often. Add layers promptly during rests. If you notice headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue, descend and inform the leader—acclimatisation comes before distance.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/rain shell, warm mid-layer, hat & gloves, sun cream & sunglasses, personal meds, blister kit, light snacks, headlamp and trekking poles.

Cultural notes (Beding): Walk clockwise around the gompa, keep left of mani walls, and ask before photographing people. Cash preferred for snacks/charging; power can be intermittent—charge when available.

Return to the teahouse by early afternoon for hot drinks, stretching and a quiet village wander. Early supper and an unhurried evening set you up for tomorrow’s move towards Na and the glacier-fed basin of Tsho Rolpa.

Day 8 : BEDING → NA: HIGH PASTURES ON THE THRESHOLD OF TSHO ROLPA

We leave Beding on a gentle rise beside the Rolwaling Khola, passing mani walls, prayer flags and stone-walled yak pastures as the valley opens towards the glacier basin. The grade is friendly and steady—perfect for acclimatisation—as distant icefalls and the pyramid of Gauri Shankar flicker between ridges. By late morning we reach the seasonal hamlet of Na, a scatter of stone houses on sunlit terraces—your high base for explorations towards Tsho Rolpa and classic trekking in Nepal scenery.

Trail facts (approx.): 2.5–4 hours • 6–9 km • Net ascent ~450–550 m • Overnight elevation at Na ~4,150–4,200 m • Underfoot: pasture tracks, stone steps, short rocky spurs, occasional bridge crossings.

Arriving in Na, air turns cool and views widen to moraine benches and glacier-fed side valleys. After a hot lunch, enjoy a slow afternoon—stretch, rehydrate and wander the terrace edges. If legs feel good, take a short, easy out-and-back stroll up-valley towards the Tsho Rolpa approach (turn back early to keep “walk high, sleep low”).

Altitude & pacing: Keep a conversational rhythm; sip water regularly and snack little-and-often. Add layers promptly during photo stops—katabatic breezes can be sharp. If headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue appear, inform the leader and rest.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/rain shell, warm mid-layer, hat & gloves, sun cream & sunglasses (strong UV), personal meds, blister kit, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Na — village notes: Simple teahouses with limited power; charging/Wi-Fi (if any) may incur a fee—carry a power bank. Walk clockwise around chortens and keep left of mani walls. Cash preferred for snacks and small purchases.

As evening light skims the terraces, settle in with hot drinks and a hearty meal. With Na reached, we are perfectly placed for tomorrow’s push towards the turquoise waters of Tsho Rolpa.

Day 9 : NA (NAA) ⇄ TSHO ROLPA LAKE: TURQUOISE HIGH LAKE & GLACIER WALLS

From Na we take an out-and-back hike up the ablation valley to Tsho Rolpa—one of Nepal’s largest high-altitude lakes. The path rises gently across moraine terraces and sandy flats, with distant icefalls and the Rolwaling peaks framing the basin. It’s a banner acclimatisation day on the Rolwaling Valley Trek and classic trekking in Nepal: walk high, return to sleep low.

Trail facts (approx.): 4–6 hours round-trip • 7–10 km • Elevation gain ~350–500 m • Max altitude at lake ~4,580–4,600 m • Underfoot: ablation-valley track, gritty singletrack, low moraine ribs, short scree ramps (occasional snow early/late season).

As the valley opens, turquoise water appears beneath serrated ice and dark rock. Prayer flags stir in katabatic breeze; gullies echo with the crack of seracs. On clear days, ridgelines around Gauri Shankar and neighbouring Rolwaling summits lift the horizon—perfect spots for a warm drink and photos before looping back towards Na.

Altitude & safety: Keep a conversational pace; hydrate and snack little-and-often. Stay on established paths—moraine edges and lake margins can be unstable; do not step on snow/ice near the shoreline. Add layers promptly during photo stops; wind chill is common. Report any AMS signs (headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue) to the leader and descend if needed.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/rain shell, warm mid-layer, insulated hat & gloves, sun cream & UV sunglasses (glacier glare), lip balm, personal meds, blister kit, snacks, headlamp, trekking poles, and dry bags for phone/camera.

Environment & respect: Tsho Rolpa is a fragile high-alpine basin held sacred by locals—pack out all litter, avoid stacking new cairns, and give wildlife generous space.

Return to Na by mid-afternoon for hot drinks, a hearty meal and rest—perfect preparation for tomorrow’s push deeper into the upper Rolwaling.

Day 10 : NA → YALUNG RI BASE CAMP: MORAINE TERRACES TO A HIGH TRAINING CAM

We leave Na and climb the ablation valley towards the rugged benches beneath Yalung Ri. The path rises over moraine ribs and gritty terraces with widening views to Tsho Rolpa, the Rolwaling peaks and the pyramidal bulk of Gauri Shankar—a classic high-altitude stage of the Rolwaling Valley Trek and signature trekking in Nepal.

Route facts (approx.): 3–5 hours • 5–8 km • Elevation gain ~600–800 m • Base camp around 4,800–4,950 m • Underfoot: moraine, boulder fields, short scree ramps, occasional old snow (seasonal).

As height builds, the air turns crisp and the basin opens like a relief map—serac walls, braided meltwater and long ridges running out from the ice. We pitch up at Yalung Ri Base Camp, a stark, beautiful shelf ideal for an extended lunch and acclimatisation.

Altitude & safety: Keep a conversational pace; hydrate and snack little-and-often. Stay on established paths—moraine edges can be unstable. Add layers promptly during photo stops (katabatic breeze common). Report any AMS signs (headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue) to the leader; descend if symptoms persist.

Skills (optional, if arranged): Short session on crampon/axe basics and rope protocols on safe ground around camp—useful preparation for higher, icier terrain (conditions permitting).

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/waterproof shell, warm mid-layer, insulated hat & gloves, sun cream & UV sunglasses (glacier glare), lip balm, personal meds, blister kit, snacks, headlamp, trekking poles, and dry bags for phone/camera.

After soaking up the panorama from Yalung Ri Base Camp, we return to our lodge at Na (or remain at base, per itinerary/conditions) for hot drinks, a hearty meal and rest—setting up lungs and legs for the high days ahead.

Day 11 : SUMMIT YALUNG RI & RETURN TO NA: ALPINE START, BIG VIEWS, SAFE DESCENT

Pre-dawn start for the push on Yalung Ri, a classic snow/rock dome above the Rolwaling basin. We ascend from Na via yesterday’s line to Yalung Ri Base Camp, then climb higher on moraine and seasonal snow to the upper slopes. In good conditions the route follows broad snow ramps with short steeper steps—non-technical in a normal season, yet alpine in scale. Sunrise lights Tsho Rolpa, the Gauri Shankar massif and neighbouring Rolwaling peaks—signature trekking in Nepal scenery at its most luminous.

Route facts (approx.): From Na: 10–13 hrs round-trip • Elevation gain ~1,400–1,600 m • Max altitude ~5,630–5,650 m • Underfoot: moraine, boulder bands, seasonal snow/ice (30–35°; brief steeper steps).
If staged at Base Camp: 6–8 hrs round-trip • Gain ~700–900 m.

The summit ridge gives wide, clean views across the Rolwaling–Khumbu divide. After photos and a short rest, we descend carefully by the ascent line, regrouping at Base Camp and continuing to Na for hot drinks and a well-earned meal.

Safety & pacing: Alpine start, steady “rest-step” rhythm. Helmet on rock bands; crampons and axe when firm/frozen. Roped travel may be used on harder snow—follow the leader’s line. Turn-around time is enforced for safety. Monitor for AMS (headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue); descend if symptoms persist.

Equipment & skills: Crampons, ice axe, helmet, harness (with cow’s tail) and warm summit layers required; basic crampon/axe proficiency expected (refresher given at Base Camp as conditions allow). Note: If attempting the true summit, additional climbing authorisations/permits may be required; these are arranged in advance when applicable.

Summit day pack: 2–3 L water (plus thermos), high-energy snacks, shell & belay-weight insulation, spare gloves/liner, buff/beanie, UV sunglasses or goggles, sun cream & lip balm, headlamp + spare batteries, personal meds, blister kit, phone/camera in dry bags. Gaiters recommended.

Back in Na by late afternoon/early evening: rehydrate, celebrate, and rest. Tomorrow’s plan flexes to conditions and recovery, keeping the journey through the Rolwaling Valley safe and strong.

Day 12 : NA → KYALCHE (KYALCH): FROM HIGH LAKE TERRACES TO FORESTED BALCONIES

We leave Na and begin our down-valley arc, retracing gentle terraces beside the Rolwaling Khola with wide views to Tsho Rolpa and the buttresses of Gauri Shankar. The trail slips past stone-walled yak pastures and mani walls to Beding (ideal for tea or lunch), then continues through mixed rhododendron, hemlock and larch towards the seasonal herder hamlet of Kyalche (Kyalch/Kyalche Kharka). It’s a restorative, scenic descent—classic trekking in Nepal and a graceful transition on the Rolwaling Valley Trek.

Route facts (approx.): 5–7 hours • 11–15 km • Net descent ~700–1,000 m with short ups • Highest start ~4,150–4,200 m (Na) • Underfoot: pasture tracks, stone steps, forest singletrack, suspension bridges, occasional rocky/landslide gullies.

As altitude eases, air grows warmer and birdsong replaces glacier wind. The path undulates across spurs with balconies over the river, then settles among mossy trunks and ferny gullies before reaching the quiet meadows of Kyalche for the night.

Downhill care: Use trekking poles to spare knees on long stair sections; take short, sure foot placements on damp rock and roots. Keep spacing in any landslip-prone gully and cross bridges one at a time. In warmer/wet months, expect mud and possible leeches; long socks and repellent help.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun protection, cap, thin gloves, personal meds, blister kit, headlamp, snacks, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Kyalche notes: Simple teahouse/kharka shelters; power and connectivity are limited—charge when available and carry a power bank. Respect local etiquette around shrines and mani walls; ask before photographing people or livestock.

Evening gathers softly in the trees; the river murmurs below the meadow. Rest, rehydrate and enjoy a calm night—tomorrow the trail continues towards the lower Rolwaling villages.

Day 13 : KYALCHE → SIMIGAUN: FOREST DESCENT, RIVER CROSSING & RIDGE-TOP RETURN

We continue down the Rolwaling Valley Trek from Kyalche, slipping through rhododendron, hemlock and bamboo as the soundtrack shifts from glacier wind to river song. The trail drops towards the Rolwaling Khola, crosses on a suspension bridge, then climbs the final stone steps to the ridge-top village of Simigaun. Terrace views open wide, with prayer flags and the village gompa welcoming us back—classic, satisfying trekking in Nepal in reverse.

Trail facts (approx.): 5–7 hours • 10–14 km • Net descent ~700–1,000 m with a final ascent ~250–400 m to Simigaun • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, occasional muddy sections, bridge approaches, short rocky spurs.

The morning brings long stairways shaded by mossy trunks, ferny gullies and balcony traverses above the river. After the crossing, the path winds up through cardamom plots and small hamlets to the sunny shoulder of Simigaun—a fine place for a hot drink and an easy evening.

Downhill care: Use trekking poles to spare knees; take short, sure foot placements on damp rock/roots. Keep spacing in any landslip-prone gully and cross suspension bridges one at a time. In warmer/wet months, expect mud and possible leeches; long socks and repellent help.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun protection, cap, personal meds, blister kit, headlamp, snacks, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Simigaun notes: Walk clockwise around the gompa and keep left of mani walls. Power/Wi-Fi may be intermittent—charge when available. Cash preferred for snacks/charging.

Settle into a simple teahouse in Simigaun, stretch out the legs and watch evening light spill across the terraces. Tomorrow we complete the valley exit to the roadhead.

Day 14 : SIMIGAUN → KATHMANDU (DRIVE): FROM RIDGE-TOP VILLAGE TO VALLEY CITY

After breakfast we descend to the roadhead near Chetchet and begin the journey back to Kathmandu. The route winds along the Tama Koshi corridor before climbing through terrace-cut hills and market towns. Windows frame your last wide looks over the Rolwaling foothills—river gorges, tea stalls and hillside hamlets—before the valley opens towards the city. A fitting close to the mountain chapter of your Rolwaling Valley Trek and days of classic trekking in Nepal.

Route facts (approx.): Road travel 7–9 hours (season/roadworks dependent) • Mixed tarmac/gravel with bends & occasional delays • Planned tea/photo stops at viewpoints.

En route, expect lively roadside scenes: produce markets, schoolyards and terraces stacked with millet and cardamom. Short stops break the journey for views and leg-stretches before the final roll into the valley and onward to your hotel.

Comfort & safety: Wear a seatbelt; if motion-sick, sit forward-facing and consider remedies. Keep valuables zipped and close during roadside stops. Step clear of traffic when taking photos at viewpoints and be mindful of passing bikes/trucks.

Daypack today: Water, light snacks, sun protection, tissues/hand sanitiser, a warm layer, motion-sickness meds (if needed), camera/phone with power bank, and a small trash bag for litter.

Arrival in Kathmandu by late afternoon/early evening (traffic dependent). Check in, enjoy a hot shower and an easy supper. If energy allows, a gentle stroll for a celebratory tea or momos is a fine way to toast the journey before tomorrow’s post-trek plans.

Day 15 : DEPART KATHMANDU: HOMEWARD BOUND FROM THE ROLWALING

After breakfast, enjoy a final glance across the rooftops and temple spires of Kathmandu before your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport. As city sounds rise, carry with you quiet memories of Rolwaling Valley: Tsho Rolpa’s turquoise light, yak pastures at Beding and Na, and dawn’s glow on Gauri Shankar.

Airport timing: Plan to arrive ~3 hours before your international flight. Kathmandu traffic can be busy—depart with a comfortable buffer and keep your passport, e-ticket and any remaining permits handy.

At the terminal, check in your duffel, pass security and immigration, then take a quiet tea before boarding. This gentle glide from mountain time to city clocks is part of the journey too.

Baggage & safety: Power banks and lithium batteries in carry-on; trekking poles, multi-tools and liquids in checked bags. Respect 100 ml liquid limits for cabin luggage. If connecting, keep duty-free liquids in sealed, tamper-evident bags.

In-flight wellbeing: Hydrate often, take short aisle walks and stretch lightly. Compression socks help on long sectors. Set your watch to destination time after take-off to ease jet-lag.

As your aircraft lifts over the valley and the Himalaya folds into cloud, hold the stillness of the high country. Dhanyabad and Namaste—until the trails call again.

Travel summary: Hotel → Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) transfer; international flight as ticketed.

Important Information — Rolwaling Valley Trek

  • Travel & flights: Package includes return economy flights NEW YORK↔KTM. This itinerary has no domestic flights. If you choose to add internal flights independently, note that Nepal flying is weather/ATC dependent—build buffer time and review the European Commission’s general EU Air Safety List guidance.
  • Road transfers: Kathmandu ↔ Chetchet is a long mountain drive that can be bumpy and delayed by roadworks or weather—wear a seatbelt, keep valuables zipped, and if motion-sensitive sit forward-facing.
  • Altitude & acclimatisation: Key overnights include Beding (~3,690 m) and Na (~4,150–4,200 m). Keep a conversational pace, hydrate, snack regularly and report any AMS symptoms (headache, nausea, unusual fatigue) immediately; the itinerary may flex for safety.
  • Terrain & seasonality: Narrow balcony paths, long stair sections, suspension bridges and occasional slick/landslide sections. In warmer/wet months, expect mud and possible leeches; poles and long socks/repellent help.
  • Lodges & facilities: Remote teahouses with simple rooms; hot showers, device charging and Wi-Fi are limited or pay-per-use. Power is intermittent—carry a reliable power bank and a headlamp.
  • Water & hygiene: Boiled/treated water provided on trek; bring a reusable bottle and backup purification. Hand sanitiser and basic personal first-aid reduce GI issues.
  • Money & connectivity: Villages are largely cash-based; withdraw in Kathmandu (ATMs beyond the city are unreliable). Mobile data/Wi-Fi is patchy to non-existent higher in the valley.
  • Cultural etiquette: Dress modestly; ask before photographs; keep left of mani walls and circle chortens clockwise; maintain quiet near homes and monasteries.
  • Yalung Ri (optional): Very cold nights at base—insulate water and batteries. If attempting the true summit, helmets on rock bands; crampons/axe as required; roped travel at the leader’s discretion. Confirm any additional climbing authorisations in advance.
  • Safety & baggage: Lithium batteries/power banks in carry-on; trekking poles/multi-tools in checked. Use poles on long descents; cross bridges one at a time and give pack animals the mountain side.
  • Insurance (mandatory): Must cover trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation; verify limits/exclusions and any pre-authorisation procedures.
  • Financial protection & support: ATOL for UK bookings; ABTOT for non-UK bookings; plus 24/7 support whilst away.
