From cultural treasures to serene beaches, Sri Lanka offers a rich tapestry of landscapes and traditions waiting to be explored.

Day 2 : ARRIVAL IN COLOMBO - PINNAWALA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE & TRANSFER TO DAMBULLA

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo, a warm tropical breeze and gentle island hospitality welcome you to Sri Lanka. After completing arrival formalities, you will be greeted by your professional chauffeur-guide and escorted to your private air-conditioned vehicle.

Your journey north begins as you leave the bustling capital behind and travel towards the Cultural Triangle. En route, you will visit the renowned Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a heart-warming sanctuary dedicated to the care and protection of rescued elephants. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe these gentle giants up close and, depending on timing, witness their memorable river bathing session.

Following your visit, continue your scenic drive towards Dambulla, where the landscape unfolds into a tapestry of swaying coconut palms, emerald rice paddies and traditional village life. This relaxed transfer offers your first authentic glimpse into the island’s rural charm and natural beauty.

Upon arrival at your hotel in Dambulla, check in and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil surroundings, this peaceful setting provides the perfect opportunity to unwind after your international journey.

Rest and refresh as your immersive Sri Lanka tour begins in earnest tomorrow with visits to iconic cultural and wildlife highlights.

Overnight Stay: Dambulla

Day 3 : POLONNARUWA ANCIENT CITY & MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI

After breakfast, travel to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable archaeological treasures. Once the thriving capital of a powerful medieval kingdom, Polonnaruwa showcases remarkably preserved ruins that reveal the sophistication of ancient Sri Lankan civilisation.

Explore the impressive Royal Palace complex, sacred quadrangles, and the iconic Gal Vihara — a stunning collection of colossal Buddha statues carved from a single granite rock face. As you wander through centuries-old monasteries, reservoirs and intricately sculpted shrines, you gain a vivid understanding of the island’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

Following lunch (at your own cost), prepare for an exhilarating wildlife experience as you embark on a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park. This renowned sanctuary is famous for its spectacular seasonal elephant gatherings, where herds roam freely across open grasslands and gather near the shimmering reservoir.

Keep your camera ready as you may also spot spotted deer, wild buffalo, peacocks and an array of birdlife thriving within this diverse ecosystem. The safari offers an immersive glimpse into Sri Lanka’s extraordinary wildlife, bringing you closer to the island’s untamed natural beauty.

After an unforgettable day blending ancient history and wilderness adventure, return to your hotel to relax.

Overnight Stay: Dambulla

Day 4 : SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS, DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE & VILLAGE EXPERIENCE

After breakfast, set out early to explore one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks — the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rising dramatically from the surrounding plains. Often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, this ancient royal citadel dates back to the 5th century and offers remarkable insight into the island’s engineering brilliance and artistic sophistication.

Climb the carefully constructed stairways that wind around the sheer rock face, passing the famous Sigiriya frescoes and the polished Mirror Wall before reaching the summit. At the top, explore the atmospheric ruins of King Kashyapa’s palace and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across lush jungle landscapes and distant mountains — an unforgettable highlight of your Sri Lanka cultural tour.

After descending, return to Dambulla and enjoy some time at leisure. Relax by the pool, unwind within the tranquil surroundings of your hotel, or simply take in the peaceful ambience of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. This balanced pacing allows you to fully appreciate the morning’s adventure.

Later, visit the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive cave temple complexes in South Asia. Dating back over two millennia, these remarkable rock caves are adorned with vibrant Buddhist murals and over 150 serene Buddha statues. As you walk through the cool, incense-scented chambers, you will gain deeper insight into the island’s spiritual heritage and artistic legacy.

In the afternoon, immerse yourself in an authentic rural experience in Hiriwadunna Village. Cross a tranquil lake by traditional boat, observing local fishermen and birdlife along the shoreline. Continue to a village home where you will learn about traditional farming methods and daily life in rural Sri Lanka.

Conclude your cultural encounter by savouring a traditional Sri Lankan meal prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This heartfelt village experience provides meaningful insight into Sri Lanka’s rural traditions and hospitality.

Overnight Stay: Dambulla

Day 5 : JOURNEY TO KANDY VIA MATALE SPICE GARDENS

After breakfast, depart Dambulla and travel south towards the scenic hill capital of Kandy. En route, stop at the fragrant Matale Spice Gardens, where you will discover how Sri Lanka’s world-famous spices grow in their natural environment. Walk through lush plantations of cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and pepper while learning about their traditional culinary uses and ancient Ayurvedic medicinal properties.

Continuing your journey, the landscape gradually shifts to rolling hills and verdant valleys as you approach Kandy — Sri Lanka’s revered cultural capital. Nestled around a tranquil lake and surrounded by misty mountains, Kandy was once the last stronghold of the Sinhala kings and remains a city deeply rooted in tradition and spirituality.

In the evening, experience a vibrant Kandyan cultural performance showcasing traditional dance, colourful costumes and rhythmic drumming. This captivating display celebrates Sri Lanka’s rich artistic heritage and provides a lively introduction to the traditions of the hill country.

Overnight Stay: Kandy

Day 6 : EXPLORING KANDY’S CULTURAL SPLENDOURS

Begin your day with a visit to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. This golden-roofed temple houses a relic of Lord Buddha and stands at the spiritual heart of Sri Lanka. As you observe devotees offering lotus flowers and incense, you gain a deeper understanding of the island’s enduring religious devotion and cultural identity.

Continue to the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya, beautifully set along the banks of the Mahaweli River. Stroll beneath towering palm avenues, admire vibrant orchid collections, and explore manicured lawns filled with exotic flora from around the globe. The gardens offer a peaceful retreat and a showcase of Sri Lanka’s remarkable biodiversity.

You may also visit the historic British Garrison Cemetery, a quiet and contemplative site that offers insight into the island’s colonial past. Surrounded by tropical greenery, this small cemetery tells stories of early British settlers who once lived in the hill country.

After a day immersed in history, spirituality and natural beauty, return to your hotel to relax.

Overnight Stay: Kandy

Day 7 : SCENIC TRAIN JOURNEY TO NUWARA ELIYA

Today, experience one of the world’s most celebrated rail journeys as you board the scenic train from Kandy to Nanu Oya. Often regarded as one of the most beautiful train rides in Asia, this unforgettable journey winds through mist-covered mountains, emerald tea plantations, cascading waterfalls and charming hillside villages.

As the train gently climbs into the cool highlands, panoramic windows frame ever-changing landscapes of terraced hills and distant valleys. The rhythmic sound of the rails and fresh mountain air create a truly immersive Sri Lanka hill country experience, offering exceptional photographic opportunities along the way.

Upon arrival at Nanu Oya station, you will transfer to Nuwara Eliya, affectionately known as “Little England” due to its colonial-era architecture, temperate climate and manicured gardens. Surrounded by rolling tea estates and cool mountain air, this charming town retains a distinctly British character blended with Sri Lankan heritage.

Enjoy the peaceful ambience of the highlands before settling into your hotel.

Overnight Stay: Nuwara Eliya

Day 8 : JOURNEY TO YALA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, bid farewell to the cool highlands of Nuwara Eliya as you descend towards the southeastern plains of Sri Lanka. The journey itself is a visual experience, with dramatic shifts in landscape — from misty tea-covered hills to open savannah, scattered lagoons and dry forest terrain.

As you approach Yala National Park, anticipation builds for the wildlife adventures that lie ahead. This renowned sanctuary is one of Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife destinations, famous for its diverse ecosystems and high concentration of leopards.

Upon arrival near Yala, check in to your safari-style accommodation and take time to relax amidst the natural surroundings. Listen to the sounds of birdsong and distant rustling in the trees as you prepare for the thrilling safari experiences to come.

Overnight Stay: Yala

Day 9 : SAFARI ADVENTURE IN YALA NATIONAL PARK

Rise early this morning for an unforgettable jeep safari in Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife reserves. Renowned for having one of the highest leopard densities in the world, Yala offers exceptional opportunities to spot these elusive big cats in their natural habitat.

As your open-top jeep ventures through scrub jungle, grasslands and lagoons, keep your eyes open for elephants, crocodiles basking along riverbanks, spotted deer, wild boar and an impressive array of birdlife. The early morning hours provide the best chances for wildlife sightings, when animals are most active.

After your morning safari, return to your hotel for leisure time. Relax by the pool, unwind at your safari lodge or simply enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.

For those who wish to maximise their wildlife experience, an optional afternoon safari is available at additional cost, offering another opportunity to explore different sections of the park and potentially encounter further wildlife activity.

Overnight Stay: Yala

Day 10 : FROM YALA TO MIRISSA – GALLE FORT & KOSGODA EN ROUTE

After breakfast, depart Yala and journey towards Sri Lanka’s idyllic southern coastline. As the landscape transitions from dry forest to swaying palms and ocean breezes, you begin the coastal chapter of your island adventure.

En route, visit the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of a fortified colonial city in Asia. Wander through charming cobbled streets lined with Dutch-era buildings, boutique shops and art galleries. Stroll along the ocean-facing ramparts where waves crash dramatically against ancient stone walls, offering panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

Continue to the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Centre, dedicated to protecting endangered sea turtles along Sri Lanka’s coastline. Learn about conservation initiatives and, depending on timing, witness hatchlings before their carefully managed release into the sea — a heartwarming insight into the island’s wildlife protection efforts.

Arrive in Mirissa, a laid-back coastal paradise renowned for its golden sandy beaches, turquoise waters and relaxed atmosphere. Settle into your hotel and enjoy the gentle rhythm of the ocean.

Overnight Stay: Mirissa

Day 11 : WHALE WATCHING & LEISURE IN MIRISSA

This remarkable marine adventure offers a rare opportunity to witness some of the largest creatures on earth in the wild — a true highlight of your Sri Lanka coastal experience. Light refreshments are typically provided onboard, and safety briefings ensure a comfortable and responsible excursion.
