Answer the call of Nepal’s classic high trails on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek, a perfectly paced journey that blends the famous Poon Hill sunrise with the glacier bowl of the Annapurna Sanctuary and a finale at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). From lakeside Pokhara to ridgeline villages and the amphitheatre of peaks, this is signature trekking in Nepal—big views, warm lodges and day-to-day immersion in mountain life.

Your route climbs stone stairways through rhododendron and pine from Nayapul to Ulleri and forested Ghorepani, where a predawn walk uncovers 360° dawn light over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and the elegant blade of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Balcony paths roll to Tadapani, Chhomrong and the bamboo corridors of the Modi Khola, rising via Himalaya and Machhapuchhre Base Camp to the high basin of ABC (4,130 m)—a vast stone cirque where prayer flags snap and glaciers whisper.

Along the way you’ll meet Gurung communities, pass chortens and mani walls, and overnight in friendly teahouses serving hearty meals and hot drinks. Days are moderate-to-challenging (typically 5–7 hours), with sensible altitude gain and photo-ready pauses. Required permits—ACAP and TIMS—are arranged, leaving you free to savour the rhythm of the trail and the evolving skyline.

Whether you’re chasing your first Himalayan summit panorama or returning for a deeper look, the combination of Poon Hill’s golden hour and the quiet awe of the Annapurna Sanctuary trek delivers a lifetime highlight: sunrise ridges, glacier light, and evenings warmed by stoves and story-swapping.

In a sentence: A view-rich, culturally vivid Annapurna Base Camp trek that pairs the iconic Poon Hill sunrise with the serene grandeur of the Sanctuary—the best of trekking in Nepal, in one elegant arc.

Day 1 : DEPART NEW YORK → KATHMANDU: LAUNCHING YOUR ANNAPURNA PANORAMA — SANCTUARY & POON HILL TREK

Your journey into the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary and the sunrise ridges of Poon Hill begins at NEW YORK. Arrive about 3 hours before departure for your long-haul NEW YORK to Kathmandu flight—the opening chapter of classic trekking in Nepal through rhododendron forests, stone steps, and amphitheatre peaks circling the Sanctuary.

Flight note: Most routings are a convenient one-stop connection (e.g., Doha, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul or Delhi). Check your baggage allowance in the airline app. Pack trekking poles, multi-tools and liquids in checked baggage; keep power banks, valuables and medication in your carry-on. Wear or carry your broken-in hiking shoes for a smoother start on trail.

After security, hydrate, stretch and choose a light meal. In flight, sip water regularly, take brief aisle walks, and keep caffeine/alcohol modest to arrive fresher for Kathmandu (KTM). A neck pillow, eye mask and earphones help with rest on the overnight sector.

Permits & paperwork (Annapurna): We arrange your Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS. Carry your original passport (no scans), at least 2 passport photos, and travel insurance details covering trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation.

Time-zone tip: After take-off, set your watch to Nepal Standard Time (UTC+5:45) to ease jet-lag. Keep your airline app open for live gate and baggage updates.

As cabin lights dim and the wing skims a scatter of stars, London’s glow fades to hush. Tomorrow you’ll descend into the Kathmandu Valley—gateway to briefings, gear checks and the trails that rise towards Poon Hill and the circling peaks of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Flight summary: NEW YORK → Kathmandu (KTM), overnight sector; airline, flight numbers and timings as per ticket.

Day 2 : ARRIVE KATHMANDU (KTM) & LEISURE: SOFT LANDING FOR THE ANNAPURNA PANORAMA — SANCTUARY & POON HILL TREK

Touch down in Kathmandu, the cultural gateway to Annapurna trekking. With ridge-lines hemming the valley and temple spires rising above old quarters, today is a gentle reset before the trails to Poon Hill and the bowl of the Annapurna Sanctuary. Meet our representative, transfer to your hotel and keep plans light—hydrate, unpack and breathe in the warm, incense-laced air of the city.

Arrival notes: Have your passport, e-visa (if applicable), hotel address and local contact ready for immigration. Keep essentials—warm layer, medication, phone/power bank—in your carry-on. ATMs are available; cash is handy in the mountains for snacks/charging.

Once checked in, enjoy an easy stroll for coffee or a courtyard tea. If you need last-minute spares for trekking in Nepal—extra socks, buffs, sunscreen—Thamel’s gear lanes have you covered. Aim for an early night to bank sleep before moving towards Pokhara and the Annapurna foothills.

Health & acclimatisation: Hydrate, favour light meals and gentle stretching (calves/hips/shoulders). Keep caffeine/alcohol modest. A brief daylight walk and an early bedtime help reset your body clock for the days ahead.

Briefing & permits (Annapurna): Evening meet with your trek leader for a route briefing, kit review and safety overview. We’ll confirm your ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and TIMS, and talk through tomorrow’s transfer—typically a short flight or drive to Pokhara before the trail to Poon Hill and the Sanctuary.

Optional (extra cost): Golden-hour kora at Boudhanath Stupa, sunset at Swayambhunath, or a quiet pause in the Garden of Dreams. Keep walks short and unhurried.

As dusk settles, Kathmandu hums with courtyard lamps and temple bells. Enjoy a simple supper and lay out tomorrow’s daypack—water, shell, warm layer, sun protection, meds and documents. The rhododendron forests and sunrise ridges of Poon Hill are close now.

Day 3 : FLY KATHMANDU → POKHARA: LAKESIDE EASE WITH ANNAPURNA VIEWS

After breakfast, transfer to the domestic terminal for the short hop to Pokhara, Nepal’s serene lakeside city and the launchpad for the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek. On clear mornings, the flight can reveal the shark-fin of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the ramparts of the Annapurnas gliding past the window—an inspiring prologue to classic trekking in Nepal.

Flight notes: KTM → PKR ~25 minutes, weather-dependent. Domestic allowances are lighter than international (often ~10–15 kg checked + small cabin—see ticket). Keep power banks/meds/valuables in carry-on; poles/multi-tools/liquids in checked bags. Be aware of general EU Air Safety List guidance when considering Nepal-based carriers; buffers are built into the plan.

On arrival, check into your hotel near Phewa Lake and enjoy a relaxed day exploring Lakeside cafés, waterside promenades and mountain viewpoints. If skies are clear, peaks like Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre float above the water—perfect for an easy photo walk and a gentle acclimatisation day before the stone steps and rhododendron forests ahead.

Easy options (extra cost): Row a wooden boat to Tal Barahi temple; sunset at the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa); wander the alleys of Old Pokhara; or visit Devi’s Falls and Gupteshwor Cave. In the evening, the lakeside aarti at Tal Barahi is a calm cultural touchpoint.

Permits & prep (Annapurna): We’ll finalise your ACAP and TIMS this afternoon. Lay out tomorrow’s daypack—water, snacks, shell, warm layer, sun protection, personal meds and copies of documents. Cash is handy for trail snacks/charging.

Health & pacing: Hydrate after the flight, keep meals light and stretch out the legs along the lake. Early night recommended—tomorrow we begin toward the ridges that lead to Poon Hill and, later, the bowl of the Sanctuary.

Flight summary: Kathmandu (KTM) → Pokhara (PKR), ~25 mins; baggage limits per ticket; timing subject to weather/ATC.

Day 4 : DRIVE POKHARA → NAYAPUL • TREK TO ULLERI (2,050 M): STONE STEPS INTO THE ANNAPURNA FOOTHILLS

We leave Pokhara after breakfast, driving west through terrace-cut hills to the trailhead at Nayapul. After a short walk beside the Modi Khola, the path threads the riverside lanes of Birethanti and climbs gently past Hille and Tikhedhunga before tackling the famous Ulleri steps—broad stone staircases that lift us to tonight’s ridge-top village. It’s a classic first stage of trekking in Nepal on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek: villages, suspension bridges and rhododendron shade, with peaks occasionally flashing between the hills.

Route facts (approx.): Drive 1.5–2.5 hrs Pokhara → Nayapul (season/roadworks dependent). Trek 9–12 km4–6 hrs • Net ascent ~900–1,000 m (to 2,050 m) • Underfoot: village lanes, suspension bridges, stone steps, forest singletrack.

At Birethanti we check permits and follow the river to Tikhedhunga for tea before the steady climb. Mule trains and village life animate the route; waterfalls thread the gullies and, higher up, the air cools as we approach the slate-roofed cluster of Ulleri on its sunny shoulder.

Permits & checkpoints: Carry passport for ACAP and TIMS verification at Birethanti. Keep a copy/photo of documents in your daypack; show tickets at village posts as requested.

Trail etiquette & safety: Yield to mules (stand on the mountain side); cross bridges one at a time; step carefully on polished stone, especially if wet. In warmer/wet months, expect slick sections and possible leeches—long socks/repellent help. Keep a steady, conversational pace on the Ulleri steps; poles save knees.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun hat & sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags. Small cash for tea houses and snack stops.

Arrive in Ulleri (2,050 m) by mid–late afternoon to a simple teahouse welcome. As evening light skims the terraces, enjoy hot drinks, a hearty supper and views that hint at the higher ridges leading towards Poon Hill and the bowl of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Day 5 : ULLERI → GHOREPANI (2,860 M): RHODODENDRON & PINE TRAIL TO THE FOOT OF POON HILL

From Ulleri, the path climbs steadily on stone stairways beneath canopies of rhododendron and pine, passing the hamlets of Banthanti and Nangethanti as the air cools and the forest deepens. Waterfalls thread the gullies, birdsong follows the ridge, and occasional clearings hint at the high skyline. By afternoon we crest into Ghorepani (2,860 m), a colourful lodge village tucked just below Poon Hill—a classic stage on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek and hallmark trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.): 8–10 km4–6 hrs • Net ascent ~800–900 m (2,050 m → 2,860 m) • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, short bridges, occasional muddy sections (seasonal).

Pacing & altitude: Keep a conversational rhythm on the long stair sections; sip water regularly and snack little-and-often. Add layers promptly during rests—the forest can be cool and damp. Watch footing on mossy stone after rain.

Trail etiquette & safety: Yield to mule trains (stand on the mountain side). Cross bridges one at a time. In warmer/wet months expect slick rock and possible leeches—long socks/repellent help. Use trekking poles to spare knees on long steps.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun hat & sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Arrive to the blue-roofed lodges of Ghorepani with views (weather-permitting) to Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Check in, enjoy hot drinks and a hearty supper, and prep for tomorrow’s pre-dawn Poon Hill sunrise walk—one of the great panoramas of the Annapurnas.

Day 6 : POON HILL SUNRISE (3,195 M) • GHOREPANI → CHUILE (2,309 M): BIG VIEWS, FOREST TRAILS & A QUIET HILLSIDE HALT

Pre-dawn we climb from Ghorepani to the famous ridge of Poon Hill for a 360° sunrise—peaks igniting from Dhaulagiri to Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and the shark-fin of Machhapuchhre. After photos and hot tea we descend to the lodges for breakfast, then begin a glorious forest traverse towards Tadapani and down to the peaceful hamlet of Chuile—a classic day on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek and hallmark trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.):
Poon Hill return: 1.5–2 hrs round-trip • +~330–350 m / – same • Stone steps & ridge path.
Ghorepani → Chuile: 12–16 km5.5–7.5 hrs moving • Cumulative ascent ~700–900 mdescent ~1,100–1,300 m.
• Route: Ghorepani → Deurali Pass (~3,180 m) balcony trail → Banthanti → Tadapani (~2,630 m) → steep forest descent to Kimrong Khola → climb to Chuile (~2,309 m).

After the pass at Deurali the path flows through rhododendron and mossy oak, with waterfalls in shaded gullies and occasional clearings for peak glimpses. From Tadapani, a lesser-trodden trail drops to the Kimrong Khola before a final steady rise to Chuile—a quiet, hillside stop with sunset views and a snug teahouse welcome.

Pacing & safety: Start Poon Hill early; bring a headlamp and warm layers—wind chill is common on the ridge. Use trekking poles on long stair sections and the steep drop to the Kimrong Khola. Yield to mule trains (stand on the mountain side) and cross bridges one at a time. After rain, expect slick stone and mud; take short, sure steps.

Daypack today: 2 L water + electrolytes, light shell, warm mid-layer/hat & gloves for dawn, sun cream & sunglasses, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp (with fresh batteries), and phone/camera in dry bags. Small cash for tea at viewpoints.

Etiquette & environment: Keep left of mani walls and walk clockwise around chortens. Stay on established paths—forest floors are fragile. Pack out litter and keep noise low at dawn on Poon Hill so everyone can enjoy the moment.

Settle into Chuile for the evening: hot drinks, stove-warm dining room and views across layered hills. A big, beautiful day—sunrise ridge, ancient forest and a quiet hillside bed.

Day 7 : CHUILE → BHANUWA (2,110 M) VIA CHHOMRONG (2,170 M): RIDGE VILLAGE LIFE ON THE SANCTUARY APPROACH

From Chuile we drop through mossy oak and rhododendron to the Kimrong Khola, then climb steady zigzags to the stone lanes of Chhomrong—a classic Gurung village perched opposite the shark-fin of Machhapuchhre. After a well-earned lunch and wide looks toward the Annapurna Sanctuary, we continue on contoured paths and long staircases to reach Bhanuwa (2,110 m), a quieter hillside halt with sunset views—an unhurried, culturally rich day of trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.): 11–15 km5–7 hrs moving • Start ~2,309 m (Chuile) → Chhomrong 2,170 m → finish 2,110 m • Cumulative ascent ~700–900 mdescent ~800–1,000 m • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, suspension bridges, village lanes.

The morning descent is shaded and bird-filled; the climb to Chhomrong opens grandstand views to Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Beyond the village, staircases ripple across terraced hillsides toward Bhanuwa, where a snug teahouse, warm dining room and layered valley views round off the day.

Pacing & safety: Use trekking poles on long stair sections; take short, sure steps on polished stone, especially after rain. Yield to mule trains (stand on the mountain side) and cross suspension bridges one at a time. Snack little-and-often and keep a conversational rhythm on the climb to Chhomrong.

Permits & checks: Keep passport/permit copies handy—ACAP and TIMS may be verified around Birethanti/Chhomrong. Carry small cash for tea houses and village checkpoints.

Cultural etiquette: Step left of mani walls and walk clockwise around chortens; ask before photographing people; keep voices low near homes and terraces.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun hat & sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Evening in Bhanuwa is unhurried—tea on the veranda, village lights pricking the valley, and a hearty supper before a restful night ahead of tomorrow’s onward path toward the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Day 8 : BHANUWA → HIMALAYA (2,920 M): INTO THE ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY CORRIDOR

We turn north toward the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, dropping to the Chhomrong Khola and climbing long stone stairways through Sinuwa and Upper Sinuwa. The trail then slips into deep rhododendron and bamboo forest, threading cool gullies and mossy boulders past Bamboo and Dovan to the quiet cluster of Himalaya (2,920 m). Waterfalls lace the cliffs, monkeys chatter in the canopy, and glimpses of Machhapuchhre tease the horizon—a classic, immersive day of trekking in Nepal on the approach to the Sanctuary.

Trail facts (approx.): 12–16 km6–8 hrs moving • Start ~2,110 m (Bhanuwa) → finish 2,920 m (Himalaya) • Cumulative ascent ~1,000–1,300 mdescent ~400–600 m • Key points: Chhomrong → Sinuwa → Bamboo → Dovan → Himalaya • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, short bridges, occasional muddy/rocky gullies.

After permit checks around Chhomrong, we settle into an even, steady rhythm: balcony paths above the river, pungent bamboo stands, and cool forest shade that makes the climbs kinder. Beyond Dovan, the valley narrows and the mood turns alpine as we approach the lodges at Himalaya for hot drinks and a hearty meal.

Pacing & safety: Keep a conversational rhythm on the long stair sections; use trekking poles to spare knees. After rain, stone slabs can be slick—take short, sure steps. Do not linger beneath cliff bands or in narrow gullies; follow the leader’s line through any past landslip zones.

Permits & checkpoints: Carry passport/permit copies for ACAP and TIMS verification near Chhomrong. Keep small cash handy for tea houses and charging.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, hat & gloves (cooler above 2,700 m), sun protection, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags.

Evening at Himalaya feels close to the high country—river hush, cool air and steep walls above the lodges. Rest well; tomorrow we rise into the upper basin toward Deurali and beyond, with the cirque of the Annapurna Sanctuary drawing near.

Day 9 : HIMALAYA → MACHHAPUCHHRE BASE CAMP (3,700 M): THROUGH THE GATE OF THE ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY

We push higher from Himalaya through cool bamboo and rhododendron shade to Deurali, where cliffs part and light floods the valley. Beyond Hinku Cave, the trail enters the wide, glacial basin—the symbolic “gate” to the Annapurna Sanctuary. Slopes ease to alpine turf and moraine as the pyramid of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) dominates the head of the valley. With steady pacing and big horizons, we reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC, 3,700 m) for a spectacular high night—an iconic stage of trekking in Nepal on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek.

Trail facts (approx.): 8–10 km4–6 hrs moving • Start 2,920 m (Himalaya) → 3,700 m (MBC) • Cumulative ascent ~800–900 m • Descent ~100–150 m • Key points: Himalaya → DovanDeuraliHinku area → MBC • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, sandy/moraine benches, short bridges; occasional snow/ice in shoulder seasons.

As the valley opens, views stack to Hiunchuli, Annapurna South and the knife-edge of Fishtail. Air grows sharper and the scale turns alpine—perfect for an unhurried, photo-rich approach before a hot drink at the lodges of MBC.

Safety & altitude: Keep a conversational pace; hydrate and snack little-and-often. Between Deurali and MBC some slopes and gully floors can be avalanche/rockfall-prone in late winter/spring and after heavy rain—your leader will choose the safest line and timing; do not linger beneath steep faces. Add layers promptly in the wind. Watch for AMS signs (headache, nausea, unusual fatigue); report symptoms immediately.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/waterproof shell, warm mid-layer, insulated hat & gloves, sunglasses & high-SPF sunscreen (strong UV), lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags. Micro-spikes may be advised in shoulder seasons (leader’s call).

MBC — high-camp notes: Nights are cold; keep batteries and water insulated. Facilities are simple; charging/Wi-Fi may be limited/fee-based. Stay on paths—riverbanks and corniced edges can be unstable. Rest well: a dawn push to ABC (weather permitting) is planned tomorrow.

As evening light washes the cirque, settle into the lodge with hot soup and wide windows on the Sanctuary walls. You’re on the threshold of the amphitheatre—Annapurna Base Camp awaits at first light.

Day 10 : MACHHAPUCHHRE BASE CAMP → ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP (4,130 M): INTO THE HEART OF THE SANCTUARY

We leave MBC (3,700 m) at first light, following a gentle rise on moraine benches into the wide bowl of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail threads alpine turf and sandy flats as the cirque unfolds—Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Tharpu Chuli (Tent Peak), Singu Chuli and the knife-edge of Machhapuchhre holding the skyline. A final easy ramp leads to the cluster of lodges at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC, 4,130 m), where prayer flags stir and the glacier creaks below—an unforgettable high point of trekking in Nepal on the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek.

Trail facts (approx.): 2–3 hrs2.5–4.5 km • Ascent ~430 m (MBC 3,700 m → ABC 4,130 m) • Underfoot: packed paths, sandy/moraine benches, occasional old snow/ice in shoulder seasons.

As height builds, views sharpen and the scale turns amphitheatrical—perfect for unhurried photography and quiet pauses. We check into a simple lodge at ABC, warm up with tea and spend the afternoon exploring safe viewpoints as cloud and light play across the cirque.

Altitude & safety: Keep a conversational pace; hydrate and snack little-and-often. Stay on the main track—glacier margins, corniced edges and wind-slab pockets can be unstable. Weather flips fast: add layers promptly in the breeze. Monitor for AMS (headache, nausea, unusual fatigue) and inform your leader immediately.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/waterproof shell, warm mid-layer, insulated hat & gloves, UV sunglasses & high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, snacks, headlamp, phone/camera in dry bags. Micro-spikes may be advised if icy (leader’s call).

ABC lodge notes: Nights are cold; keep batteries and water insulated. Facilities are basic; charging/Wi-Fi may be limited/fee-based. Please avoid stepping onto the glacier or creating new cairns; respect prayer flag lines and local shrines.

Sunset and dawn at ABC are extraordinary: alpenglow sweeps the rim, stars crowd the sky, and first light pours into the bowl. Rest well—you’ve reached the Sanctuary’s heart.

Day 11 : ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP → DOBHAN (2,540 M): SUNRISE IN THE SANCTUARY, LONG DESCENT TO THE FOREST

Optional pre-dawn stroll to a safe viewpoint for sunrise at ABC—alpenglow pouring over Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, Tent Peak and the knife-edge of Machhapuchhre. After breakfast we retrace our steps past MBC and Deurali, leaving the open bowl of the Annapurna Sanctuary for narrowing valley walls, bamboo thickets and mossy forest. Waterfalls thread the cliffs as we pass Hinku area and Deurali to reach Dobhan (2,540 m)—a sheltered riverside cluster—capping a big, beautiful day of trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.): 14–18 km6–8 hrs moving • Start 4,130 m (ABC) → finish 2,540 m (Dobhan) • Net descent ~1,550–1,650 m with short climbs • Route: ABC → MBC → Deurali → Hinku area → Dobhan • Underfoot: packed paths, moraine benches, stone steps, forest singletrack; occasional old snow near ABC in shoulder seasons.

The upper basin gives way to alpine turf and then to bamboo and rhododendron shade—cool, fragrant and kind on the eyes after the glare of high country. We break for tea en route and settle into Dobhan by mid–late afternoon for a warm meal and river hush.

Safety & pacing: At dawn, keep to marked viewpoints—avoid glacier edges and cornices. Between Deurali and MBC, some slopes can be avalanche/rockfall-prone in late winter/spring and after heavy rain; your leader will time the passage and choose the safest line. On the long descent, use trekking poles, take short, sure steps on polished stone, and tape hot spots early to prevent blisters.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, wind/waterproof shell, warm layer (chilly start), sun cream & sunglasses (strong UV at altitude), lip balm, personal meds, knee/ankle support if used, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, phone/camera in dry bags. Micro-spikes may help if early-season ice lingers (leader’s call).

Etiquette & environment: Stay on established tracks; do not shortcut switchbacks. Keep voices low at dawn viewpoints so everyone can enjoy the moment. Pack out litter and respect prayer flag lines and cairns.

Evening in Dobhan is all river murmur and woodsmoke. Stretch, rehydrate and rest—tomorrow the forested corridor continues as we slip back toward warmer air and terraced hills.

Day 12 : DOBHAN → CHHOMRONG (2,170 M) VIA BAMBOO & SINUWA: FOREST CORRIDORS AND RIDGE-TOP STEPS

From the riverside lodges of Dobhan we descend through cool bamboo stands to Bamboo, then climb back on stone stairways to the ridge-top settlement of Sinuwa. After a balcony traverse in rhododendron and oak, the path drops steeply to the Chhomrong Khola before a final staircase leads to Chhomrong (2,170 m)—a classic Gurung village with grandstand views to Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and the shark-fin of Machhapuchhre. It’s a satisfying down-valley arc on the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek and hallmark trekking in Nepal.

Trail facts (approx.): 10–13 km5–7 hrs • Start 2,540 m (Dobhan) → finish 2,170 m (Chhomrong) • Cumulative ascent ~700–900 mdescent ~1,000–1,200 m • Key points: Dobhan → Bamboo(Upper) Sinuwa → Chhomrong Khola bridge → Chhomrong • Underfoot: stone steps, forest singletrack, short bridges; occasional muddy/rocky gullies.

Mossy trunks, waterfalls and birdsong set a steady rhythm through the forest. Above Sinuwa, the valley opens for glimpses of high peaks before the long staircase down to the river and the final climb to the slate-roofed lanes of Chhomrong—tea, views and a snug dining room waiting.

Pacing & safety: Use trekking poles on long stair sections; take short, sure steps on polished stone, especially after rain. Yield to mule trains (stand on the mountain side) and cross suspension bridges one at a time. In warmer/wet months, expect slick paths and possible leeches; long socks/repellent help.

Permits & checks: Keep passport/permit copies handy—ACAP & TIMS may be verified in the Chhomrong area. Carry small cash for tea houses and charging.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm mid-layer, sun hat & sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, phone/camera in dry bags.

Evening light warms the terraces as you settle into Chhomrong. With the Sanctuary behind and the foothills ahead, it’s a perfect place to pause, sip tea and watch the peaks turn gold.

Day 13 : CHHOMRONG → SYAULI BHATTI (VEHICLE TO POKHARA): STAIRWAYS TO THE RIVER, ROAD TO THE LAKE

From Chhomrong (2,170 m) we descend the famous stone stairways to Jhinu Danda (hot springs optional), then contour riverside trails past New Bridge and Kyumi to Syauli Bhatti (Syauli Bazaar). Here we meet our vehicle and roll back to Pokhara, trading rhododendron shade and terrace paths for lakeside cafés and wide looks to the Annapurnas—a satisfying close to the Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek and classic trekking in Nepal.

Trek & travel facts (approx.): Trek 10–14 km4–6 hrs • Net descent ~900–1,100 m with short climbs • Route: Chhomrong → Jhinu Danda → New Bridge → Kyumi → Syauli Bhatti. Road transfer ~2–3 hrs to Pokhara (season/traffic dependent). Underfoot: long stone steps, forest singletrack, village lanes, suspension bridges.

Morning light warms the terraces as we drop to the river, where the path eases into balcony tracks and farm lanes. Tea stops and last photos with the hills precede our rendezvous at Syauli Bhatti. By afternoon, Phewa Lake glints through the windscreen and the city unfolds for a hot shower and a celebratory supper.

Pacing & safety: Use trekking poles on the long stair descent; take short, sure steps on polished stone, especially after rain. Yield to mules (stand on the mountain side). Cross suspension bridges one at a time. Hydrate and tape any hot spots early.

Daypack today: 1.5–2 L water + electrolytes, light rain shell, warm layer, sun hat & sunscreen, lip balm, personal meds, blister kit/tape, snacks, headlamp, and phone/camera in dry bags. Keep small cash for tea houses and any hot-spring fee at Jhinu (optional).

Transfer notes: Wear a seatbelt on the return drive; if motion-sensitive, sit forward-facing and consider remedies. Keep valuables zipped during roadside/photo stops. On arrival in Pokhara, check in, shower, and enjoy an easy lakeside evening.

As twilight settles over Phewa, the trek’s arc feels complete—sunrise ridges, the white bowl of the Sanctuary, and now the gentle glow of lakeside lights.

Day 14 : FLY POKHARA → KATHMANDU & LEISURE: CITY EASE BEFORE THE JOURNEY HOME

After breakfast we transfer to Pokhara Airport for the short hop back to Kathmandu. On clear mornings the window frames the white rim of the Annapurnas receding over Phewa Lake—a graceful curtain call for your Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek. On landing, a city transfer takes you to your hotel for a relaxed afternoon: a hot shower, an easy lunch and unhurried time to wander or simply rest.

Flight & transfer notes: PKR → KTM ~25–30 mins, weather/ATC dependent. Domestic baggage limits are lighter than international (often ~10–15 kg checked + small cabin—see ticket). Keep power banks, meds and valuables in carry-on; poles/multi-tools/liquids in checked bags. Road transfer to your hotel ~30–60 mins depending on traffic.

With boots off and city shoes on, choose your mood: courtyard tea in Thamel, a gentle stroll through the craft lanes, or a sunset wander at Durbar Square. If you prefer something quieter, find a bench in the Garden of Dreams and let the dust settle—in every sense.

Recovery & wellbeing: Hydrate, stretch calves/hips/shoulders, and keep meals light. A short daylight walk helps circulation after the flight. If you fancy, book a massage or steam (optional) to ease trail-tired legs.

Admin & packing: Back up photos, sort laundry, and repack for tomorrow’s international flight. Place power banks and batteries in carry-on; pack trekking poles and multi-tools in checked luggage. Keep passport, e-tickets and insurance details handy.

Optional (extra cost): Golden-hour kora at Boudhanath, sunset at Swayambhunath, or an early-evening aarti near Pashupatinath. Dress modestly for temples; walk clockwise around stupas; ask before photographing people.

Travel summary: Pokhara (PKR) → Kathmandu (KTM) flight; hotel transfer and leisure afternoon/evening in Kathmandu.

Day 15 : DEPART KATHMANDU: HOMEWARD BOUND FROM THE ANNAPURNAS

Your Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek draws to a graceful close. After breakfast, take a last wander through the courtyard lanes of Kathmandu and then transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)—carrying sunrise memories from Poon Hill, glacier light from the Sanctuary, and the quiet rhythm of rhododendron forests.

Airport timing: Plan to arrive ~3 hours before your international flight. Traffic can be busy—leave with a comfortable buffer. Keep your passport, e-tickets and insurance details handy for check-in and immigration.

At the terminal, check in your duffel, clear security and treat yourself to a final Nepali tea before boarding. The shift from mountain time to city clocks feels gentle—let it be.

Baggage & security: Place power banks and all lithium batteries in your carry-on. Pack trekking poles, multi-tools and liquids in checked luggage. Cabin liquids must be ≤100 ml, inside a clear resealable bag. If connecting, keep duty-free liquids sealed in a tamper-evident bag.

In-flight wellbeing: Hydrate often, stretch calves/hips/shoulders and take brief aisle walks. Compression socks help on long sectors. Set your watch to destination time after take-off to ease jet-lag.

As the aircraft lifts over the valley and the Himalaya fold into cloud, hold the glow of dawn at ABC, the song of the Modi Khola and the terrace paths of Ghorepani. Namaste—until the mountains call again.

Travel summary: Hotel → Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) transfer; international flight as ticketed.

Important Information — Annapurna Panorama — Sanctuary & Poon Hill Trek

  • Permits: ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and TIMS arranged; carry your passport for checks (e.g., Birethanti, Chhomrong).
  • Domestic flights: Kathmandu ↔ Pokhara flights are weather/ATC dependent with lighter baggage limits (often ~10–15 kg checked + small cabin). Build buffer time; review general EU Air Safety List guidance when choosing carriers.
  • Road transfers: Vehicle links to/from Nayapul and Syauli Bhatti can be slow due to traffic/roadworks—wear a seatbelt and keep valuables secured during stops.
  • Altitude & acclimatisation: Highest overnights are MBC (~3,700 m) and ABC (4,130 m). Keep a conversational pace, hydrate, snack regularly and report any AMS symptoms immediately.
  • Terrain & seasonal safety: Expect long stone stairways, forest singletrack and suspension bridges. Above Deurali, slopes/gullies can be avalanche/rockfall-prone in late winter/spring and after heavy rain—follow leader timing/lines and avoid lingering beneath steep faces.
  • Lodges & facilities: Teahouses vary; hot showers, device charging and Wi-Fi may be limited or pay-per-use. Nights at MBC/ABC are cold—insulate batteries and water; bring a reliable headlamp.
  • Water & hygiene: Boiled/treated water is provided on trek; carry a reusable bottle and optional purification backup. Hand sanitiser and a small first-aid kit help reduce GI issues.
  • Money & connectivity: Villages are largely cash-based; withdraw in Kathmandu/Pokhara. Wi-Fi/mobile data is patchy higher in the valley.
  • Cultural etiquette: Keep left of mani walls, circle chortens clockwise, and ask before photographing people. Dress modestly around shrines/temples.
  • Baggage rules: Power banks and all lithium batteries in carry-on; trekking poles/multi-tools/liquids in checked bags.
  • Insurance (mandatory): Must cover trekking at altitude and helicopter evacuation; check policy limits/exclusions and any pre-authorisation steps.
  • Porter welfare: Loads limited per porter; fair wages, proper equipment and insurance provided—keep your duffel within the stated allowance.
  • Environmental care: Pack out litter, stay on established paths, avoid soap in streams, and don’t build new cairns.
  • Financial protection & support: ATOL (UK bookings) / ABTOT (non-UK bookings) and 24/7 support whilst away.
