History

Before the Spanish came into power, different communities occupied Costa Rica for thousands of years, for livelihood they did hunting. You can get fresh products at a reasonable price at the weekly bazaars or farmers’ markets. San Jose offers a diverse range of handmade products and souvenirs. You can find lots of local shops selling wooden masks but go for the original ones made by the local community.
